Our world loves categories.
Us and them.
Right and wrong.
My side and your side.
People like me and people who aren’t.
Apparently, the first-century church struggled with some of the same things.
Paul reminds them that in the family of God, the thing that ultimately defines us isn’t our background, status, culture or differences, it’s Jesus.
He writes in Colossians 3:11, “Christ is all, and is in all.” (NIV)
We won’t look alike.
Think alike.
Vote alike.
Have the same experiences.
Or agree about everything.
But if Jesus is at the center, we have something greater than our differences.
We have Him.
Unity isn’t found in everyone being the same;
it’s found in Jesus being at the center of everything.
Jesus, help me see people through Your eyes. Keep me from allowing differences to become divisions, and teach me to love Your family well. In Your Powerful Name, Amen.
