One of the hardest things about becoming new is that we still remember who we used to be.
We remember the mistakes.
The failures.
The labels.
The versions of ourselves we wish we could erase.
But Jesus isn’t asking you to keep living under your old life.
You have been made new.
Paul writes in Colossians 3:9-10, “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (NIV)
That doesn’t mean you never struggle.
It means your struggle no longer gets to define your identity.
Your past may explain some things about you,
but it doesn’t get the final word about you.
Jesus does.
You aren’t who you were.
And you aren’t even finished becoming who He created you to be.
Don’t let an old version of you define the new person Jesus is creating.
Jesus, help me stop defining myself by who I used to be. Teach me to live confidently in the new identity You have given me. In Your Powerful Name, Amen.
