It is so easy to spend our days looking around at what is wrong or what someone else has. We can be so focused on what we are afraid of that we forget to look to God for what He wants to do.
What has your attention today?
Whatever consistently gets our attention eventually gets our focus.
Paul gives us another way to live:
Look up.
He writes in Colossians 3: 1- 2, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (NIV)
Setting our minds on things above doesn’t mean ignoring real life.
It means seeing real life through the truth of who God is.
It means seeing people from His perspective.
It means knowing you are surrounded by His love.
God is good.
God is faithful.
God is with you.
God is working.
You may not be able to control what is happening around you,
but you can choose what you set your mind on.
You have been raised with Christ.
Your new life is ruled by God’s grace.
Fix you attention on Him.
His love.
His power.
His surrender.
His sacrifice.
When Jesus walked the earth, He wasn’t focused on what the people around Him wanted Him to do. He was focused on God’s mission for His life.
What is God’s mission for you right now, right where you are?
Focus on that and let God take care of the rest.
Lord Jesus, lift my eyes to see everything in my life today from your perspective. When circumstances consume my attention, help me set my heart and mind on You and what is true. In Your Powerful Name, Amen.
