It is surprisingly easy to turn following Jesus into a list.
Paul writes in Colossians 2:16-17, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival,” (NIV)
There is a difference between obedience that grows out of relationship
and religious performance that grows out of fear.
Do this.
Don’t do that.
Look like this.
Act like that.
But Jesus didn’t come to make us better rule followers.
He came to make us fully alive in God’s love.
Religion says, “I obey God because I want Him to love me.”
Relationship says, “I obey God because He already does.”
You don’t have to earn what Jesus freely gives.
His love isn’t a paycheck for good behavior.
It’s a gift of grace.
God doesn’t make us work for His love.
He teaches us how to live from it.
Father, thank You that I don’t have to earn Your love. Help my obedience flow from relationship with You rather than fear or performance. Teach me to live loved today. In Jesus Powerful Name, Amen.
