When Risk Is a Refuge

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”   Nahum 1:7 NIV

Every time you step out in faith in Jesus, it is a risk.

Being faithful to Jesus may look like being a failure to the world.

He may ask you to leave what you know, sacrifice whatever is needed, and embrace a temporary difficulty for the hope of a future promise.

Know that even though the risk seems great, a life lived in faith in the Son of God means that every cross He asks you to bear leads to a resurrection to a new kind of life you have never lived before.

This is the prayer I am whispering over you today, “Jesus, take care of my friends as they step out in faith. Thank you that they are trusting you as they face risk. Reward them with courage and vision and do what only You can do – the impossible in them and through them. In Your Name, Amen”

Take One Step

Just one.

But make sure that it is a step of faith.

You will never feel more alive than when you take a step of faith.

When you make the call,
Say the words,
Reach out,
Run ahead,
Or slow down.

You do it before you see results,
without assurance of success,
and not knowing where it will take you.

It is a step of faith.

“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

James‬ ‭2‬:‭17‬ NIV

The reverse is true as well- every time you let an opportunity pass to put your faith into action, it dies a little bit.

If you are reading this, you are not dead. Neither is your faith.
Put it into action.

How is your faith?

What step of obedience do you need to take today?

Rise to the Challenge

I want to encourage you to embrace the season before you.

Don’t draw back.
Don’t hide behind your walls.
Don’t wait for something to change.
Engage fully.
Experience every moment.
Fearlessly use the gifts God has given you.

That doesn’t mean that you must wait until you have no fear, it means that you must step out in faith and use your gifts dispite the emotion of fear. Fear is an emotion, God wanting to work through you is a fact.

God preparing good works for you to do today, tomorrow and this month is a fact:

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God empowering you to walk in His glory and live fully engaged with His Spirit is fact.

Embrace the season before you.
Don’t draw back.
Don’t hide behind your walls.
Don’t wait for something to change.
Engage fully.
Experience every moment.
Fearlessly use the gifts God has given you.

Do it Afraid

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭26‬ NIV)

The enemy will gladly use your feelings and emotions to confuse, slow down and stop you from obeying God.

When God asks you to step out in faith, it will always be to do something that is beyond what you can do by yourself.

You will need God’s help to accomplish it. You will need His power, His Strength, His Grace, His mercy- all of it, all of Him,to do what He has asked you to do.

Whenever you face something you can’t do by yourself- fear rises up. That is okay. You are not supposed to “do it by yourself”. You are supposed to do it “with God”.

So when it comes to obedience: do it afraid. The feelings are natural when what God is asking you to do isn’t.

God is asking you to trust, to obey, to step out in faith and do something with Him.

To reach out. To love. To forgive. To share. Whatever “it” is, do it afraid.

Don’t wait for the feeling to leave- it will not.

Feelings don’t dictate your obedience, they only indicate how much you need to depend on God.

Do it anyway.
Obey anyway.
Step out in faith anyway.
Do it afraid.

What Is Stopping You?

God has given you gifts to deal specifically with your unique life and He has given you permission to use them.

“if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭7-8‬ NIV)

What has God given you to do?

Just do it.

Cheerfully.
