Dirty Feet

“After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”

John 13:5 NIV

Before Jesus laid down His life, He laid down His rights to be important, to be taken care of, to be served and He served instead.

The moment the Prince of Eternity wraps a towel around His waist and takes the lowest possible position of the lowest servant in the house, takes my breath away.

The Son of God washing the grime and dirt off the feet of his friends.

The King of kings humbly serving the would-be betrayer, the deny-er, the not good enough, the doubter and hot-headed.

Afterwards He told them to follow suit. To do for each other what He just did for them: set aside position, become the lowest, meet basic needs with humble love. Love each other practically and continually. To put aside your rights and pick up your towel and you will be blessed.

When an opportunity presents itself this week, which never looks the way you expect it to, take up your towel.

And don’t forget to present your own dirty feet to Jesus and allow Him to gently wash you clean.

Gifts

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. (‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭11-12‬ NIV)

God has given you gifts to make you strong and to make others strong through you.

And vise versa- you are strengthened when other’s use the spiritual gifts God gives them to encourage and bless you.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬ NLT)

When you operate in those gifts- it gives you strength.

When you don’t operate in the spiritual gifts God has given you- do you get weak?

Yes. Yes, you do.
What has God gifted you with?

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.

So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.

If it is giving, give generously.

If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.

And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭6-8‬ NLT)

When you are not operating in the gifts God has given you- other’s are missing out and you are getting spiritually weaker.

What do you need to do to make it a priority to operate in your gift?

If God has given it to you, He has a way for you to use it but it is up to you to make it a priority.

Find a way to serve, teach, give, encourage or lead- it doesn’t matter how big or small- it will bless you and bless others.

It is strengthen you and strengthen other’s.

Are you feeling weak?
