Regrets

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. (‭Psalm‬ ‭139‬:‭1‬ NIV)

God knows you and loves you.

He knows your strengths and weaknesses. He knows every regret you have ever had and why you have it.

More than that, God knows how you can grow from it.

God can change your regret into a gift.

God can turn a memory of disappointment into a moment of discovery, a revelation of wisdom, a catalyst for change.

You don’t have to repeat the past. You don’t have to live with regret.

In Christ, you are a new creation and have His power within you to change, to transform, to grow.

Useless regrets are the ones you don’t learn from.

May there be NO useless regrets in your life.

May you learn from every one.

May God use every one of them to set you free to be who He has created you to be.

What regret can God transform into a gift today?

Be Here

As you countdown the days to Christmas, take a minute to focus on what is important and in the craziness continue to refocus on your Creator.
It is His love you are celebrating.
This miraculous gift of the Son, this unquenchable love of the Father, this daily guide of the Spirit.
“for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Instead of replaying past moments or creating perfect scenarios in your head of the near future, be here.
Enjoy the imperfections of this day and those to come.
Know that everything “being perfect” will not create the feeling of fulfillment you are looking for.
You are looking for love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness…. and these are fruits of the Spirit (not fruits of the season).
Be here.
Love here.
Give yourself and those around you lots and lots of grace here and now.
Have a be-present-and-filled-with-the Spirit day.

Permission to Rest

img_5891

Rest doesn’t have a season.

It isn’t optional.

You need it, every day.

Not just your body but also your soul, spirit, and mind.

“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭34:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You need to rest, refresh, recharge in all seasons, especially in the busiest ones.

It isn’t optional. It’s how God made you and it is the way to optimize the gifts He has given you to fulfill the purpose He has placed before you.

What refreshes your spirit?

What rejuvenates your mind?

What feeds your soul?

Your Gifts

4dda24ef998fbe8ab8b6705935bbb664--spiritual-gifts-spiritual-sayings

The gift that you are with your smile and words,
your hands and heart,
how you cook or clean,
create or organize,
how you lead and follow,
bless and pray
is meant to be given, not hidden.
God has given you gifts.
All kinds.
Some come as talent.
Others are revealed in character.
Some are gifts to you as well as through you that bring such joy to you that you can’t bare to share them.
Some are so close to your heart that you are afraid to reveal them.
But gifts are made for giving.
Salt is made for seasoning.
Light is made for lighting.
Gifts are made for giving.
The more precious they are to you, the more powerful they will be for others.
The gifts you have been given are to be given away: to serve, to love, to mend, to tend, to bless, to build.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Shine.
Season.
Give.

Permission to Rest

Rest doesn’t have a season.

You need it, everyday.

There is No Such Thing as Normal

I want to remind you today that there is no such thing as “normal”.

Life does not move in simple horizontal lines, plotting along connecting dots. We are not given a coloring page per season of life and asked to simply color inside the lines. Life happens…death happens. Circumstances are far out of our control.

You are a child of God who has been made to rise to the occasion. Deal with the reality. You have been empowered to fill the need presented to you with all the gifts and grace God has given to you.

“Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn” – Harriet Beecher Stowe

I want go encourage the brave ones who read this blog to never give up.

When you feel that you can’t take one more step, or that you can’t move one more inch forward – that is NOT THE TIME TO GIVE UP, it is the moment to KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

Don’t worry about defining yourself within our culture.

Don’t limit yourself by trying to find a place to fit.

Do all that you are called to do, all that you are called to be, in the season you find yourself in, with the tools at you have in your hands.

With bold and strong colors – fill in the lines of your season then draw outside of them. Live outside of the lines of others expectations and opinions.

Live for God.

“But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Your voice matters. What you are doing is important. Your input is vital and needed.

There is no such thing as normal- let go of trying to be normal and go after fulfilling your present purpose in Christ.

Season

Wherever God has placed you, whoever He has surrounded you with, whatever job He has given you to do, He has you there for a purpose and it is not as complicated as you think it is.

“You are the salt of the earth. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ NIV)

You are to be a precious “additive” to the world you live in and in the work you do.

Salt is valuable as well as enhances whatever it is added to.

You are there to add value. That alone is a gift so many people are craving- simply the recognition that they are valued.

And they are valuable to God- so valuable that He paid the ultimate price to love them.

May God shake you up today and pour you out for someone who desperately needs to know that they are precious and valuable to God.

A New Word for a New Season

20140611-170010.jpg

You need a new word for a new season.

You need to hear from God about where you are and what your doing now.

God doesn’t change, but the seasons of your life do. In fact, everything changes but God.

That is why you need a fresh word of strength, direction, peace or joy from the unchangeable God whose depths of wisdom and knowledge we will never be able to exhaust.

Last weekend I helped my sister in law with her new baby. His name is Levi and I am in love. I was only there for three days and two (loooonnnnggg) nights but it reminded me how hard those first few months with a baby are. Respect for every mom rises to new heights when you spend the night with a newborn.

For three days, I jumped into my sister in laws season and was fully present there. Then I got home and tried to get back into my season, which frankly felt paltry in comparison.

The thing is this: the season you are presently in NEVER feels as important as it actually is.

When my boys were babies and survival was the task at hand, it didn’t feel important. As I cradled my brand new nephew in my arms the power of the moment slammed into me. There is NOTHING more important than what my sister in law is doing right now.

On the flip side, there is also NOTHING more important than what I am doing right now. I am spending time, teaching, and coaching
my jr. High boys the basics of hygiene. And relationships. And studying. And laundry. And dreaming. And working hard. Most of the time it feels like “just surviving” and a lot of yelling “did you brush your teeth?”.

Whatever season of life you are in (right this minute), it is important And it is vital that you are all in. It is important to listen to the voice of God and hear what he is saying to you.

You can’t take an old word from your last season and try to apply it to this one.

Just like I can’t take the word God has given me for my season and apply it to my sister in laws season. It just doesn’t work and I don’t have to try to make it work. God has a fresh word of vision and encouragement for each of us where we are.

Because wherever you are, God is already there. He has gone before you, prepared the way and waiting to walk with you in it:

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:7-10 NIV)

Take just a minute to authentically answer these questions:

What season are you in?

What is important about it?

What is God telling you to do in it?

What is he asking you to let go of?

What is he telling you to hold onto?

Don’t minimize your season of life, God certainly doesn’t.
