Not Normal

There is no such thing as normal.

There is routine, there is what you are used to, there is “how things used to be”, but there is no normal.

Life changes, jobs change, children grow, people pass away, new seasons of life come whether you are prepared for them or not.

Stop worrying about being “normal” or working to get things “back to normal”.

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lordʼs holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

Ephesians 3:17-19 NIV

Being rooted and established in Christ means that He is your anchor, your security, your place of rest in the midst of chaos. His love is not shaken. Your hope can rest on Him and not in your present circumstances.

Let go of trying to be normal and focus on being established in love with roots that grow deep in the soil of who Jesus is.

Give Him room in your heart and let Him live through you.

New seasons bring new normals but Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Draw your security from God today and dig in to get the most from this time in your life.

Be Rooted

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:6, 7 NIV)

We are camping in a state park and surrounding by a forest that feels ancient. The trees are massive, reach high overhead with branches that sway in wind. The moss covered trunks lead down to roots that only hint at their depths. For as tall as the tree is, I know the roots go deeper.

Yesterday we spent the day inside the Yurt playing board games as the skies opened up and poured down rain. The wind shook the windows and rain battered the walls.

We were caught by surprise two nights ago by a short shower and in the morning, I had to clean up the soggy mess of paper towels and plates that I left outside.

Last night , we were prepared and made sure everything was covered or put away.

As the showers fell, one thing I was not worried about was if the ancient trees of the forest would survive. They have been through many storms worse than this one. They swayed and moved but did not fall.

It is said that storms cause the trees to grow stronger and deeper roots.

It can be true in life as well.

You will have storms that rain down upon you, some will catch you by surprise and others you will be more prepared for.

Hold on. The storm will pass. The sun will come out again from behind the clouds.

We had a short break in the storm as I was writing this post. So, I got up to get a picture of the trees and instead was greeted by this beautiful rainbow.

There is a rainbow for you. When the time is right, you will see it and if you give up now, you might miss it.

No matter what is happening around you, continue to live you life in Christ. Be rooted in Him. And by all means whenever there is a break in the clouds, look up to see your rainbow.
