Small Offerings

Some of the best of moments of worshipping God is the smallest of them.

They are the offerings of thanksgiving in the unseen simplicity of your daily life.

Little altars of normal and boring and non-important that are precious gifts to the in-the-moment relationship building God.

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Don’t get caught up in the world’s view of important and busy.

God’s definition of important is a daily relationship with you.

You.

When you make the small moments of your everyday endeavors an offering to God, you will discover that having abundant life in Christ isn’t about doing big things for Him but worshipping Him in the small things you do every day.

May today’s mundane moments and unseen duties be filled with sweet worship and small offerings of fellowship with your very present God.

Your Why

“We justify our actions by appearances; GOD examines our motives.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭21:2‬ ‭MSG‬‬
God examines your motives because they are the “why” behind the “what”. When you are soul drained, the simplest tasks can begin to feel like heavy burdens.  You slip into auto pilot and just go through the motions.  Your “why” is to survive, to make it through one more day.
Survival is a good “why” to make it through hard things but it is not meant to be your permanent state of being.
God has more for you today.
He is the God of inside workings, attitude makeovers, perspective shifters. He is the forgiving God, the wipe the slate clean and start over God. He is the miracle making God, creating something out of nothing God with just one word from His mouth.
Your Heavenly Father created you in love, to love and to be loved. God so loved you that He sent His Son as a sacrifice to restore you to Himself.  He did not do it out of duty, He did it out of love. He does not live out of duty but out of love and wants the same for you.
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NIV
When your why comes from love it feeds your spirit and invigorates your soul. Duty devoid of it drains it.
May the God of the inside workings give your attitude a makeover from duty doer to lit up lover.  May the forgiving God wipe clean the slate of the past and help you start over today.  May the miracle making God, create something out of nothing and fill you so full of His love that it overflows onto those around you.
Are you living in survival mode or love mode?
What’s your why today?

Fully Persuaded

Human effort can not achieve the fulfillment of God’s promises. Only God can.
“Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:19‬ ‭NIV‬‬
The moment you “face the fact” that you are unable to make God’s promise come to pass is the moment you are set free to rest in God alone.
It sets you free from focusing on yourself and your works so that you can focus on God and His works.
God chose you.
“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:20-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬
God chose you to be a partner in the promise but it is His strength, inspiration, motivation, and miracle.
Your part is to receive, rest, wait, give glory to God and live fully persuaded that God is able to do above and beyond all you can ask or imagine.
“Abraham didn’t focus on his own impotence and say, “It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.” Nor did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up. He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said.
Take the plunge…live fully persuaded.
God IS able.

Delight

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”‭‭        Psalm‬ ‭37:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Which side of the comma are you living in?

Take delight in the Lord,

or

And he will give you the desires of your heart?

Delight, desires.

This beautiful scripture reminds me to enjoy my relationship with God and where the focus of that relationship is to come from delight. When I am focusing my life on delighting (joy, great enjoyment, and pleasure) in the Lord, the world seems like a wide open space for me to experience with someone I love. When I focus on the desires of my heart, the world seems a small closed space in which I only see what I don’t have and experience envy at the perception of what everyone else seems to have.

I’ve learned that my desires are not good taskmasters and in fact, they make great idols.  They also don’t make a good foundation for a relationship, not with God or anyone else.

I’m not saying that your desires are bad, in fact, I believe that the Lord puts loads of good desires in your heart: the desire to love and be loved, to connect and be connected to,  to cherish and to be cherished.  I’m saying that if you focus your life on getting your desires met that you will be miserable and probably not even know why.

Living on the delight side of the comma means that your focus is on your relationship with God and being delighted in him, by him and with him. It is acknowledging that while you delight in him, he will fulfill the known and unknown desires of your heart.

Trust and Delight.

It’s a great way to live, don’t you think?

One Thing

In our multit-asking mounting pressure culture to juggle your life AND plan the your future well, there is a prayer whispered from the heart of a king that reveals to us the secret of the One Thing.

The former bear wrestler, lion chaser, singing sheep keeper that faced the giant and beheaded him. This king who was the warrior worshipper prayed for this:

“I’m asking GOD for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long.

I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet.

That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭27:4-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬

It is the secret that David shouted out and the source that fueled his life.

He knew that ONE THING was needed above all others :to live WITH God every day. To enjoy Him, learn from Him and have a safe house to escape to when the world goes nuts.

David lived in the palace but longed for the Temple.

The ONE THING thing David longed for is the very thing Jesus experienced and prayed for you to experience:

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

‭‭John‬ ‭17:22-23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus prayed for you to experience this kind of relationship with God everyday, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Enjoy God.

May your day be filled first with this one thing and may all the rest of life be impacted by it.
