I Desire

Monday

I’ve learned that my desires are not good taskmasters but they do make great idols.  They also make flawed foundations for a relationship with God or anyone else.

I’m not saying that your desires are bad, in fact, I believe that the Lord puts loads of good desires in your heart: the desire to love and be loved, to connect and be connected to,  to cherish and to be cherished.  What I am saying is that if the focus of your life is getting your desires met that you will be miserable and probably not even know why.

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”‭‭

Psalm‬ ‭37:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Which side of the comma are you living in?

Take delight in the Lord,

or

And he will give you the desires of your heart?

Delight, desires.

What you focus on determines how you experience your life.

When you are focusing on delighting (joy, great enjoyment, and pleasure) in the Lord, the world will seem like a wide-open space for you to experience with someone you love.

When you focus on the desires of your heart, the world can seem like a small closed space in which you can only see what you don’t have and experience and envy what everyone else seems to have.

Living on the delight side of the comma means that your focus is on your relationship with God and being delighted in Him, by Him and with Him and trusting Him with the rest.

There is sweet freedom found in delighting in your relationship with God while letting Him hold all your desires to do what He may. He is a good Father and knows you more than you know yourself.

How are you delighting in the Lord?

What is making you miserable?

What side of the comma are you living on?

An Act of Faith

Wednesday

“By an act of faith, Abraham said yes to God’s call to travel to an unknown place that would become his home. When he left he had no idea where he was going.”

Hebrews 11:8 MSG

God has a rich inheritance waiting to be claimed by you today.

It is the inheritance of an unhindered relationship with Him. One where you are free to trust, risk, follow, and be used by God to bless others in ways you can’t even imagine.

Abraham left his country behind to go after His God-given destiny.

My friend, God is not calling you to physically leave where you are but I know He is calling you spiritually, emotionally, or mentally into a new place of faith.

To get where God has called you, you have to leave the place you are in.

He is calling you today by leaving the shelter of some strategic comfort zones that have been keeping you stuck right where you are:

  1. life as you know it
  2. habits that hold you hostage
  3. mindsets that mold your world

The good news is that for every comfort zone you step out of, Jesus has a promise for you to step into and His love to guide you.

God is calling you to an unknown place that will become your home. More than a new plot of land, it is a new way of life.

May your courage grow as you bravely choose to step out of your strategic comfort zones one “act of faith” at a time.

What “way of life” needs to go by the wayside today?

What habit is holding you hostage?

What mindset is holding you back from going after what God has called you to?

God has a destiny for you. He has a rich inheritance waiting to be claimed.  An inheritance of unhindered relationship with Him. One where you are free to trust, risk, follow and be used by God to bless others in ways you can’t even imagine.

However, you can not fully take hold of it until you break out of your comfort zones: life as you know it, habits that hold you, mindsets that have molded you.

To get where God has called you, you have to leave the place you are in.

Abraham left his country behind and you are going to have to leave the shelter of some strategic comfort zones in order to go after your own God-ordained inheritance.

The good news is that for every comfort zone you step out of, Jesus has a promise for you to step into and His love to guide you.

Living Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is defined as a journey to a sacred place.

When you are pursuing a thriving relationship with God, you are not just on a pilgrimage, you are living one.

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭84:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Every place you invite God into becomes a sacred place.

Your home.

Your job.

Your relationships.

The pilgrimage for a Christian is not to go somewhere that God has been but to allow God to be with you where you are right now.

In your weakness.

In your bitterness.

In your frail humanity.

Into the reality of your life.

Jesus comes in and gives you what you do not deserve but cannot live without. He gives you love, forgiveness, strength, peace, joy, hope and eventually eternity.

Where do you need to invite Jesus into today?

What If’s and Oh Well’s.

a-life-of-oh-wells-daily-quote-picture-saying

“We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD ’s purpose prevails.” ‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ MSG

Being in a relationship with God has challenged me to do things I thought I never would and has expanded the borders of what I thought was possible in my life. It also has taught me to not hold on too tightly to my plans and brainstorms and to hold them all gently.

Some ventures have worked, some have not.

The wonderful thing about being in a relationship with God is that while our plans don’t always work out, God always works His purpose through them.

My faith has emboldened me to try and trust and risk. Because of it, I don’t have many “what if’s” in my life. I do, however, have a whole bunch of “oh well’s” and I am thankful for every single one of them.

No, they didn’t work the way I thought they would but God did a work in me through each one of them.

There is nothing wrong with making plans, or lists or dreaming of a better way to do things, just don’t make them idols to worship or gods to bow down to.

Worship the one and only Almighty God and live every day to the fullest in Him.

My friend, go ahead risk a bit, bite off more than you can chew and take the initiative to dream…but hold them all with open hands and an open heart.

Free

2015/01/img_0014.jpg
Know the truth and the truth will set you free.

The truth is a person, not an idea or a statement.

Jesus is the truth.

All truth comes from Him, dwells in Him, exists because of Him.

Have a relationship with The Truth and He changes your life, one decision at a time.

Ask Jesus to give you wisdom and He does.

Ask Him to give you strength and a way out of temptation and He will.

Jesus speaks to you through His word and you listen. His Spirit moves in your heart and you obey.

It is a two way relationship and it will indeed, set you free.

” Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31, 32 NIV)

Focus on your relationship with Jesus instead of your ability to “be free”.

He came to set you free and didn’t give you a list of things to do.

He gives Himself to you.

Know the truth and
the truth will set you free.

YOU.

“How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him.

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.

Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free!

He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.” (Ephesians 1:3-10 MSG)

Who could have imagined that God’s greatest desire was that sin would not keep you from Him? That He could love you, know you and be in relationship with you.

If you have ever wanted to know what God wants, the answer is you.
All of you.
For now and for eternity.

Not because He wants something from you but because He simply wants you.

Rest

20140721-084356-31436419.jpg

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; (Hebrews 4:9 NIV)

When God created the world it took him six days. He separated light from darkness, created animals and plant life, filled the oceans and breathed life into the man.

He created then He rested.
The work was finished.

He took the time (a day) to revel in it, enjoy it, relate to it and called it the Sabbath. He took the time to recognize the wonder of life and joy of new relationships.

Resting is as important as working.

Physically we understand it: sleeping is as vital part of your health. While you sleep your body is working. In children and teenagers it literally grows them. In adults, it repairs, heals, prepares and rejuvenates the body.

The better you rest, the better you live.

It is also true spiritually.

Jesus uttered the words “it is finished” on the cross. The work to redeem you to God is done. You can’t add to what was done on the Cross or take anything away from it. You can’t make yourself “more right” or less right” with God.

What you can do is receive it.
What you must do is rest in it.

The better you rest, the better you live.

When you rest in God’s love, you grow.

When you receive his forgiveness, you are healed.

When you read and apply God’s Word, you are rejuvenated and ready to face your life.

There remains a Sabbath rest for you.

Everyday you get to choose if you are going to work on it or rest in it.

The better you rest, the better you live.
