Why We Rejoice

joy-quote-2

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Philippians 4:4 NIV

Rejoicing is the theme of the book of Philippians, even though the circumstances with which it was written hold no reason for such a sentiment. Paul is under house arrest in Rome waiting to go before Caesar. He is cut off from his friends and chained to a guard 24 hours a day. He is not comfortable and does not know what the future will hold.

And that is the point.

We don’t rejoice because life is good, we rejoice because God is good.

We don’t rejoice only when good things happen because God works through all things.

We don’t wait to rejoice until we have all the answers, we rejoice in knowing that Jesus does.  He loves you and will be with you whatever comes.

Set your heart to rejoice in Jesus today: who He is, what He has done and that your eternal future is secured by His amazing sacrifice.

Your present circumstances are provided for by the strength of His grace no matter what they look like.

We like to rejoice when we get our way but sometimes the harder way is what we actually need to grow in.

Set your mind to delight in a security of the love of Jesus and the mercy of His grace.

Rejoicing when there is nothing to rejoice about is a divine gift that will transform you.

And if you ask Jesus to open your eyes to see what you have right now to rejoice in, He will.

Take the gift and throw a party.

How to Celebrate When You Are Not Feeling It.

rejoice-in-the-lord

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just so you know, the day doesn’t get to choose if it is enjoyable or not, you do.

The “always” is there because you won’t always feel like rejoicing.

Some days test your patience, challenge your sanity and make you want to say bad words.

“Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:5-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Instead of blowing up, bow down in prayer.

God is close- so close, you can lean on Him, talk to Him and ask for His help all day long.

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The peace of God does not depend on outward circumstances, other people’s choices or mistakes.

It comes from God and transcends all human understanding.

You can have the peace of God within you as the world goes crazy around you.

You don’t have to understand it to receive it.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Celebrate His love.

Enjoy it all as you walk with Jesus today, my friend.

Mighty God

“For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:17 NLT‬‬

Who God is:
Mighty Savior.

Where God is:
With you.

What God does:
He saves you.
He delights in you.
He calms your fears.
He rejoices over you with singing.

In Jesus, this verse has been fulfilled. Because of Jesus, you can experience the reality of walking with God every single day.  A reality where you are aware of God’s saving power.  A reality where you can experience His delight in you.

Lift your eyes above your present circumstances.  This reality has already been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. It is yours as you receive it, as you walk in it and as you think more about what God thinks of you rather than what you think of you.

Rejoice is a Choice

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4 NIV)

Delighting

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The concept of God’s delight for me blows my mind. I don’t delight in me. I wake up with a mental tally of all the things I’m NOT doing right and all the ways I am not loveable.

Yet God, who is perfect and holy, delights in me and he delights in you.

He is with you as you do really boring stuff like the laundry. He is singing songs of joy over you as you sort through the monthly bills wondering how you are going to make it. He is smiling when you smile and enjoying all your quirks throughout the day.

This reality has already been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. It is yours as you receive it, as you walk in it, as you think more about what God thinks of you rather than what you think of yourself.

Do you know He delights in you today?

Can you hear His joyful song over you?

May your ears be open to hear his song and your heart be enabled to experience his love.

Lift up your eyes to see and delight in your Savior because today my friend, he is seeing and delighting in you.

Enjoy Today

Some days are easy to enjoy.

Some days are not.

As a child of God, redeemed and being recreated in Him – the day doesn’t get to choose if it is enjoyable or not- you do.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ NIV)

The “always” is there because you won’t always feel like rejoicing.

Some days test your patience, challenge your sanity and make you want to say bad words.

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭5-6‬ NIV)

Instead of blowing up, ask for help.

God is close- so close, you can lean on Him, talk to Him and ask for His help.

And instead of focusing on what is driving you crazy, focus on asking God to help you find something to be thankful for (even if it is that the day will be over).

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ NIV)

The peace of God does not depend on outward circumstances, other people’s choices or mistakes. It comes from God and transcends all human understanding.

You can have the peace of God within you as the world goes crazy around you.

You don’t have to understand it to receive it.

Rejoice is the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice.

Enjoy today.
