Cautious Living

When God puts something in your heart,  He has a purpose for it.

He has a purpose for you.

I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.”

“The master was furious. ‘That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that!”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25:25 MSG‬‬

It’s criminal to live cautiously with God-given purpose.

Cautious Living is a crime in God’s eyes.

He loves you passionately and wants you to boldly get to work on the visions, gifts, and callings that He has given you.

You may be asking God to give you more…but He may be asking you, “What are you doing with what I’ve already given you?”

What purpose has God planted in your heart?

What does it look like to multiply what God has invested in you?

Try

if-you-dont-try-youll-ever-know-quote-1

Being in a relationship with God has challenged me to do things I thought I never would do. It has expanded the borders of what I thought was possible in my life. It also has taught me to not hold on too tightly to my plans and to hold them all gently before Him.

Some ventures have worked, some have not.

My journey with Jesus has emboldened me to try and trust and risk.

I have also failed and fallen flat on my face.

But here is the thing –  God has used each one to do a deep work in me through each one of them.

The wonderful thing about being in a relationship with God is that while our plans don’t always work out, God always works His purpose through them no matter the outcome.

This life is not about doing all the right things, it is about letting Jesus grow the right things in you. God’s purpose is to have a relationship with you and grow you into who He created you to be.

“We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD ’s purpose prevails.” ‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ MSG

My friend, go ahead and take the risk, bite off more than you can chew and dream big all the while knowing that you are safe in the hands of Jesus as He works His purpose in you through it all whether in success or failure.

Have a fear-free, try and fail or succeed day in Christ.

#goals

33234

At the end of your life, you may or may not have human praise and awards but if you have gone after a real relationship with Jesus, you will have so much more than that.

You will have rich relationships, miraculous moments, great faith adventures as well as the single most important thing you can have with you as you step into eternity – Jesus Himself.

Don’t waste your life by pursuing goals to make yourself more comfortable, more secure or safer.

Following Jesus is not comfortable or easy but it is unique, unexpected and adventurous.

“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.” ‭‭

Philippians‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NIV

Knowing Jesus is the goal.

He is the prize, the purpose, the goal.

Not just to work for Him but to work with Him.

Not just to know about Him but to know Him in every area of your life.

Keep this goal as the top priority and all the other goals will quickly fall into their proper perspective.

Go after it.
Go after Him.

Be You

John the Baptist faithfully fulfilled what God had called him to do without looking to others in envy or for acceptance.  More than once John was asked if he was the Messiah.
He replied with this:
A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:27-28‬ ‭NIV‬‬
John the Baptist knew who he was and he knew who he wasn’t – he was not Jesus.
Reminder: There is only one Savior,  Jesus Christ.
You are not tasked with saving people, that is His job and He is good at it.
Your job is to faithfully point people to Jesus.
Knowing who you are and who you are not is vital in carrying out your own God-given assignment.
When God lays a burden on your heart, it will always be bigger than you and it will be something only He can do through you.
Pride burdens you with a sense of importance that only you can fulfill.
Pride traps you in perpetual misery about all the things you can’t do and about all the gifts you don’t have. Humility sets you free to do what God has called you to do without looking to others in envy or for acceptance.
You are called to faithfully fulfill the assignment God has given you without trying to be someone you are not or function in gifts God has not given you.
John the Baptist held tight to the attitude that defined his life:
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:30‬ ‭NLT‬‬
It is all about Jesus.
Be honest with others about who you are and point people to Jesus.
Be who God made you to be and endeavor to fulfill what God has called you to do.
What have you been given from heaven to do?
Are you doing it?

His Yoke, Your Life, A New Way.

“For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them.”

Ephesians 2:10 NET

Instead of asking God to give you strength to live your life, what if you asked Him to show you a different way of living it?

Instead of looking for the reasons why things happened yesterday,  what if you looked for what is possible with God tomorrow?

Instead of assuming your life is already set in motion,  What if you ask God to show you what needs to change in it according to His purposes?

What if you dare to believe that Jesus has more for you?

Because He does.  He already has a path prepared in His heart for you with divine appointments and opportunities to bless on it.

What if today you laid down your to-do list and picked up His? Okay, that sounds crazy so maybe you ask God to show you His to-do list in the midst of yours?

God has unseen paths laid out before you to walk in to be a blessing to people you haven’t even met yet.

Life with Jesus is a journey of overcoming and conquering, first steps and new beginnings. It is an adventure of discovery and healing, of bold moves and humble hearts. It is possible if you are teachable.

If you are available Jesus will use you today.

His yoke, your life, a new way.

Whose Yoke?

img_4801

When your shoulders feel burdened and your heart is heavy, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

When stress bears down on your neck and depression clouds your mind, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

When despair shuts down your vision and hopelessness siphons your strength, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When Jesus is offering you His yoke, it is an invitation to lay down whatever you are carrying (the yoke you have been walking in) whether it’s heavy because of what others have put on it or because of the burdens you yourself have added.

It is an invitation to come alongside Jesus and yoke up with Him.  His yoke is light for you because He bears all the weight of it. The word used for “easy” doesn’t mean without effort, it means “fit for use”.

There is still a yoke to bear and a burden to carry.  The difference is that Jesus bears the weight of it and gently trains you how to fully function in it.

How to walk and rest, follow and trust, and with Him function faithfully in God’s purposes for you.

Are you bearing your own yoke? Your own plans, purpose, and expectations?

Are you walking in someone else’s yoke? Someone else’s plans, purposes, and expectations?

What are God’s plans, purposes, and expectations for this day? What would it look like to walk in them?

May you check whose yoke you are shouldering often and learn from Jesus how to be fully yoked with Him.

May you trust His gentle heart and let Him lead you to unseen delights of service to others today.

The Me I Don’t Want to Be.

IMG_1655
“Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.”
Mathew 6:13 MSG
Jesus, keep me from me.
From the “me” that gets wrapped up in itself.
Keep me from over-analyzing every single word of every conversation trying to dissect what they might be thinking and how I should have responded differently.
This one thing alone will sap my energy to the point I am exhausted. This one thing keeps my attention on myself and I completely miss what You are doing all around me.
Keep me from being obsessed with myself.  Obsessed with how I look, how much I eat or don’t eat, what I wear, etc. By depending so much on the outward, I neglect filling up the inward with Your presence, power, grace, and love.
I just need a nudge from the enemy.  He doesn’t need to work that hard to send me down a path of self-distraction that I completely miss the joy of life’s little moments.
May this be the last moment I think about myself. May my focus and energy be to worship and magnify You. May my eyes be open to see what You are doing where I am and wholeheartedly celebrate it. May I uncover every moment of joy you have prepared for me.
May I walk in your purposes and every time I’m tempted to go down my familiar self-obsessed roads, give me a nudge to get me back on track.
Keep me from me and hold me close to YOU today.
In Jesus Name, AMEN.
