Stay Salty

“You are the salt of the earth.”
Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ NIV

In Jesus’ day, salt was used as valuable currency, as well as a precious food preservative and additive to enhance the flavor of food.

When Jesus said that you are the salt of the earth, He is saying that you are valuable and meant to enhance this world with the flavor of His grace.

You are made to add value. That alone is a gift that so many people are craving- simply the recognition that they are valued and they are valuable to God– so valuable that Jesus paid the ultimate price to love them.

You are anointed to be a precious preservative to the world you live in and in the work you do.

You are being used by God to preserve respect, show dignity and honor those around you.

My friend, wherever God has placed you, whoever He has surrounded you with, whatever job He has given you to do, Jesus has you there for a purpose and to be salty. May God shake you up today and pour you out for someone who desperately needs to know that they are precious and valuable to God.

Stay salty.

What Trips You Up?

“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭24:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What trips you up?

How do you fall?

Is it overthinking, overeating, over-controlling, overworking, oversleeping, over-it-all-so-I-am-quitting everything?

It really isn’t what trips you up that is dangerous, it is what keeps you down when you fall.

You fell.

You are human.

Get up.

You are loved.

God is not done with you.

You have a purpose.

God has a vision for your life.

Get up and take one step toward it today.

Made on Purpose

“By an act of faith, he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise.” (Hebrews 11: 9 MSG)

You have been made on purpose for a purpose.

God broke the mold when He created you.

There is no one else on earth exactly like you.

You are made to do something as unique as you are.

Others may have similar gifts but there is a call that only you can fill.

Comparing yourself to others will sabotage it and envy will outright destroy it.

To truly fulfill your purpose you are going to have to accept that you are never going to fit in.

God didn’t create you to fit in and doesn’t expect you to. In fact, He is calling you to stand up and stand out. Be different. Be unique. Be you.

God didn’t call Abraham to go to the new country and blend in, he called Abraham to live like a stranger in a strange land. He is calling you to do the same.

Embrace your unique calling and quit trying to fit in.

If you don’t know where to start, begin by asking yourself these two questions:

  1. Who are you?
  2. What breaks your heart?

Dwell

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The word dwell invokes the picture of where you live.

Where you wake up in the morning, brush your teeth and get ready for your day.

It is the place where all your “stuff” is, no matter how much stuff you have.

It is the place at the end of the day that you surrender to sleep and recharge.

You are made to dwell in the shelter of God’s presence.

To wake to His love, live in His love, rest in His love.

Jesus made it possible so you could live this today and dwell in the shadow of the Almighty’s love everyday after.

Held in the Hand of God

A pencil in the hand of a master writer is a tool to tell a powerful story.   Your life, in the hands of the loving God who sent His own Son to redeem you, is a story of grace that He is writing every day.

The most powerful thing you can do today is to surrender completely and allow Him to use your life to be an instrument of hope to those around you.

My friend, you are chosen, held, directed and purposed in the gentle hand of God to be used by Him, right where you are.

What story of grace is Jesus telling through your life today?

The Next Level

Wednesday

Want to go to the next level in your faith journey?

The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20,

“The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”‭‭‬ (‭NIV)

It is a good thing to live your life through Christ, it is going to the next level of your faith to let Jesus live His life through you.

His agenda, your body.

His purposes, your gifts.

His love, your hands.

The “next level” of following Jesus is not a stage of life to achieve, it is a vision-driven, mission-obsessed passion to let Jesus fully have His way in every area of your life.

And you don’t have to wait until you feel ready, you just have to give God persmission to begin.

Your Unique Call

Tuesday

“By an act of faith, he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise.”

Hebrews 11: 9 MSG

What Counts Right Now

“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Galatians 5:6 NIV

Q. What counts more than money, things, activities, entertainment or even a clean house?

A. Faith expressing itself through love.

It is like having a keychain packed full of keys and on it is this really little one. You know that one random key that you are not sure what it is for but you are afraid to throw it out in case you need it.

What if on the packed keychain of your life, you find out that there is a key that unlocks a vault where all the richest treasures are stored?

That key is your faith in Jesus expressed through love.

Jesus told His disciples in Luke 17:6 that they didn’t need to have big faith.  He said that if they put into action the little faith they did have, mountains would move.

My friend, it’s not the size of your faith but the size of your God that moves mountains.

All you need is a tiny bit of faith to take the first step or a crumb of hope to get you through it.

All you need to do is see a little bit of the dream Jesus has for you,  then add love and put it into action. Take a little bit of trusting in His power, add a pinch of faith and do that something that comes next – the next right thing?

When you are at that place where it seems a positive change is more like turning the Titanic than turning a key, call out to Jesus.

If you need faith for your situation, He will let you use His.

If you need to remember the dream, ask God, He dreamt it first for you.

If you need monumental hope, He is the God of all hope.

Take the little you have right now and put it in action.

What will you do today with the little faith you have?

How will you express it through love?

Chosen and Crafted

img_3930_1024x1024

In the artist’s hands, a piece of wood becomes a masterpiece.

In the carpenter’s shop, wood is chosen.

It is cleaned and prepared to be formed into the artist’s desire and vision.

Then set aside.

It is cut then set aside.

It is pressed together then set aside.

It is sanded down and set aside.

The master craftsman is working on other parts required to make a masterpiece. Forming them. Fitting them. Preparing them to be put together as one.

Parts are chiseled down with great skill until they are a perfect size. Not too big, not too small as they must be strong enough to stand under great pressure.

They are wrapped tight and set aside.

The base is measured, planned and then cut.

Then sanded, sealed, polished and set aside.

When all the parts are ready, they are brought together. By force and pressure, they are joined by glue or secured into place by the hammer and nail.

What has the creator brought together?

Is the vision realized?

Does the piece of art choose what it is formed into?

Does it choose when the work is finished?

Does it choose where it is placed?

Does it choose when it is used?
In the Master’s hands, simple wood is recreated into a masterpiece. Fine and beautiful, useful and functional.

In the Master’s plan, it is given for use.

By the Master’s hand, it is created as a gift.

By the Master’s desire, it is used as needed.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”‭‭

Ephesians‬ ‭ 2:10 ‭NIV‬‬

You have been chosen and are being crafted as His masterpiece. No matter what stage of preparation you are at (and no matter how many times you go back into the workshop) you can trust God that He knows what He is preparing you for and how to use you when it is time.

You are His Masterpiece.

Through a Prison

11808750183_4996863da2_o

“In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel

Ephesians‬ ‭4:1‭ MSG‬‬

In light of this: God can do more than you can ask or imagine.

In light of God’s ability, not your ability.

In light of God’s worthiness, not your worthiness.

In light of God’s power, not your power – RUN on the road God has called you to travel.

God has not called you to run on someone else’s road but your road.

This is your journey, your family, your school, your job, your road.

The road God has called you to travel has more to do with your character than your career- who He wants you to be rather than what he wants you to do for a living.

Paul’s road led him through prison but he did not see it as God’s failure but as an opportunity for God to use him where he was. He saw it as a part of his path.

Paul went to prison but did not stop there nor was he defined by it.

Paul’s identity was defined by his relationship to God through Jesus and by his passion to share that truth with everyone that crossed his path: guards, fellow prisoners, politicians and anyone else who God brought to him.

This is how you are to do it: anchor your identity in Jesus and share the good news of the gospel with every person who crosses your path.

Who are the people you are surrounded by in your everyday life?

This is who God wants to reach through you. This is who God wants to use you to encourage, love, and share the good news of the gospel with today.

Set your heart to love, your hands to serve and your feet to run your road empowered by God’s amazing grace.
