“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Today I want to challenge you to break through the self-imposed limitations you have placed on yourself.
Don’t settle into a place of complacency or sink under the dark cloud of “things will never change”. Neither are from God. In fact, Jesus came to transform how you think and challenge how you see yourself and your future.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”
Isaiah 55:8 NLT
Jesus came to give you direct access to a divine perspective founded in unrelenting love and sealed by unbelievable sacrifice.
When you connect to God through Christ, every accepted limitation you have in your life is challenged.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
Romans 12:2 NLT
It starts in the mind. God wants to change the way you think.
He wants to challenge your accepted life patterns and limiting thought patterns.
When Jesus challenges how you think, He is challenging how you trust.
He is asking you to follow him into a new place, new ways and a new future that is beyond your capability to comprehend.
What limitation is God challengingyou to bust through?
What thought patterns are you living with that are not from God?
What is God asking you to trust Him with today?
Be brave, lose the limitations.
What narrative plays in the background of your life that fuels your choices and drives your focus?
Is it an old story or your new one in Christ?
Jesus came to change your story.
God has called you to live a different story than the one handed down to you from your parents or the world.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
It’s a new way of living, of thinking, of being.
It is a new story with a new ending.
Sometimes you may revert to your old ways, old why’s, the old dialogue, the old labels, old mode of operation but every day is a new day to learn how to live with a new narrative- God’s.
In Christ, you have everything you need to live a new one.
This is not a once-in-a-lifetime change, it is an every-day-opportunity-to-do-it-differently, and learn-to-live-by-the-grace-of-Jesus change.
Take a moment…take a deep breath, and remember you have a new story to live today.
Leave the old one at the cross and embrace the new one with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Whose story are you living?
The road before you may look different than you expected and you are not sure where it will lead.
But God does.
He knows what lies before you and He has promised that no matter what happens, He will be with you:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Isaiah 43:1-2 NIV
God is not suggesting it. He is not asking you to consider it, He is not giving it to you as an option… it is a command: Do not fear.
Fear will never cease to have power over you until it is replaced by a greater power – the love of Jesus.
You are a chosen, treasured child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross for you. God has called you out of the place you have been and planted you in a new place.
A new place that has new possibilities, new problems, new opposition to face and new victories to experience. Not one of these things is meant to be handled by yourself. You are not alone, God is with you. You are His and He is good at taking care of His own.
Step into the New Year with a heart determined to trust Jesus.
Walk every day with the knowledge that you are His and He has called you to this place.
Rest every day in His grace and mercy, He has an endless supply for you to use.
Failure is not fatal.
Most people think to change their life, they need to change their behavior. God says to change your direction and your behavior will follow.
“Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.”’
Haggai 1:5 NIV
This verse isn’t just about what you’re doing but about where you are going. It’s not about the way you are living your life but where your life is headed.
Where are you headed?
If you keep doing what you’re doing, do you want to go where you’re going?
The phrase “Give careful thought to your ways” is actually a Hebrew figure of speech that literally means “put your heart on your roads”.
In other words: Where will your heart be down the road from today?
It is easy to get caught up in bad habits to survive the current crisis, surrender to discouragement because of the current disappointment or spew toxic words at the ones you love because of the current stress you are experiencing. The question is, “If you keep doing what you are doing what will happen to your relationships? Your body? Your heart? Is this where you want to end up?
Is what you are doing today taking you down a road you want to be on tomorrow?
If you don’t want to go that way, stop right now. Turn around. Head in a new direction and it will eventually lead to the right road.
“I am so glad I waited this long to change,” said no one ever.
