Wait Quietly

It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. (‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭26‬ NIV)

It is good to wait quietly for God to work.

Stop wondering, worrying, analyzing and overthinking where you are or where you think you should be.

Hush the thoughts that incessantly make you anxious.

Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ NIV)

Quiet your mind.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”. (‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22-23‬ NIV)

God knows what is going on.

He knows what will happen.

He loves you.

New mercies are coming your way, my friend.

What see you worrying about?

What are you trusting Gos with today?

A Different Story

  
What is the story you are living? The one that plays like a background narrative in your life? The one that fuels your choices and drives your focus? 

The one you tell yourself before you go to sleep, the one that you wake up with before you have energy to over think it?

Are you trying and failing? 

Are you hurting and falling?

Are you strong and fine?

Are you doing good and being good, until your doing bad and being bad?

Jesus came to change your story.

Jesus radically altered the whole basis of “right living” before God. Instead of working every day to live right before him, you receive grace everyday to walk with him and trusting God to shape right living in you. It’s an on going conversation and intimate relationship.

But sometimes you revert to your old story, the old dialogue, the old labels,  old mode of operation. You begin to “do” more than “be” and work more than receive. 

Everyday is a new day to learn how to live different.

Deep trusting is a different than incessant trying.

Welcoming God to walk with you is different than working hard to walk with God.

Receiving new mercies every morning is different than stagnantly reliving regulations to achieve right living. 

“It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us…

That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. 

With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9-10‬‬ MSG 

God has called you to live a different story than the one handed down to from your parents or the world. He has embraced you completely and holds nothing back from you.

He is asking for relationship and trust, in the small things as well as the really big things. He is persistent in pursuing you and everyday is a new day to begin again. 

Simply ask. 

Simply walk.

Simply receive.

Now walk.

So, You’ve Had A Bad Day

There are some days that just don’t go well.

Nothing works, you get flustered and then more things don’t work.

These are not easy days but they are only a day.

“On a good day, enjoy yourself; On a bad day, examine your conscience. God arranges for both kinds of days So that we won’t take anything for granted”. (‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬ MSG)

Today is a new day.
It may be good, it may not.

One way or the other, the day will pass and a new one will begin.

Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” (‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22-24‬ NKJV)

The days goodness does not determine God’s goodness.

Thank the Lord for His new mercies and new mornings.

Whatever happened yesterday, learn from it and let it go.
Whatever happens today, draw your portion from God and do your best.

Wait For It

It is good to wait quietly.

Quietly here means “in silence”.

There is a time to stop wondering, worrying, analyzing and overthinking where you are or where you are supposed to be and just be quiet for a while.

God knows what is going on. He knows what will happen. He loves you.

The verse before this one is quoted all the time:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” (‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22-24‬ NIV)

Sometimes you need a break from yourself and allow hope to break though.

Instead of overthinking your life today, stop. Silence your mind and open your heart to hope.

New mercies are coming your way.

I like New Years. I like a day set aside to mark the ending of a time and the beginning of a another one. I am not as revved up by it as I usually am though and to tell the truth, I’m not sure why. I’m not going to make any New Years resolutions, or even unresolutions (things I want to stop doing). I am just going to keep on keeping on. Instead of adding new things to my list, I’m going to try to continue to finish the ones already there. I don’t want to add new things to my list, but that doesn’t mean God doesn’t have a few He wants to add.

In fact, when I think about how God set up this world, I realize that He likes new things. He likes to create new things, inspire new things partner in new things, do new things. Just look around at the bare branches of the trees. The old is gone, the new will come in about four months. The winter vines of the vineyards that flank the freeways here are another reminder. They are bare, pruned and resting now. Soon new life will begin to grow. Grapes that never existed before will be brought into the world. On New Years Day , I went to visit a good friend of mine who just had a new baby. He is one month old and when I held him, I marveled in the miracle of a new life.

God has some new things he wants to do in me and through me this year. God has some new things He wants to do in you and through you too.

But don’t worry, it doesn’t start with a new thing to do. It starts with a new thing to receive. God’s mercy. God is faithful. He is your portion and the most important thing you need to do this year (before you do anything) is wait on Him (which looks a lot like resting in Him). Receive from God. Drink in His mercies, His compassion, His faithfulness like you drink your coffee (or tea) in the morning.
