Out With the Old

images-9

We all have old habits that we want to get rid of and we have had those habits for so long that they are so ingrained and we do it without even thinking.

However, there is a particular old habit that Jesus is more concerned about than the one you are thinking of.

It is a habit that belongs to your old nature: you desire to get your way in everything and work to make sure that it happens. It IS human nature but you have a new nature in Christ. You have been recreated in Him – The old has gone, the new has come.

“Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:1-2‬ ‭MSG‬‬

But old habits die hard.

When we struggle, we think it is because God doesn’t love us. In reality, it might be that He loves you so much that He will use the stressful opportunity at hand to break an old nature habit. Those habits are sabotaging your freedom to live in your new nature.

When you feel insecure make a new habit of seeking God and asking Him to show you how to think like Him in it.

“Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.”

Out with the old, in the with new.

May you be free in Christ today to pursue all God has for you!

Present Power

God has called you to live your life not perform it.

He created you to be present and active in it. Get tired, frustrated, give, take, learn, fail and grow.

Embrace reality.

Be empowered to be present.

No, it is not perfect. It’s broken and challenging and difficult. It’s different than you thought it would be and Jesus is doing a new beautiful thing right in the middle of all it.

Jesus doing a new beautiful thing in the middle of you.

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out!

Isaiah 43:18 MSG

May you be free from the narrative of the past to live fully in the newness of God’s present work in you.

May you be empowered to face the reality of your life as you walk in His unique, personal, powerful expression of grace and purpose today.

Show Me How

There is nothing more amazing than the moment you “see” the life God has called you to live.

Things that have blinded you before are gone and the chains that have bound you to repeat the past are broken by the power of Jesus Christ.

You see it.

But you don’t know to live it.

“Show me how you work, GOD;
School me in your ways.
Take me by the hand;
Lead me down the path of truth”. (‭Psalm‬ ‭25‬:‭4-5‬ MSG)

God wants more than for you to just “see” the vision He has for you- He wants to live it. But God also knows that you don’t know how to.

He is not asking you to do it alone, He is asking you to do it with Him.

He wants to take you by the hand and gently show you how He works and how to work out in reality what He has shown you.

You are in a relationship with a living, powerful, amazing God whose ways are higher than yours and He lovingly, longingly desires to teach them to you.

When you first see clearly the life God wants you to live, don’t get overwhelmed by the vision of it, dig down deep into the relationship He wants to have with you to it.

He will never ask you to take more than one step at a time. He will never require you to live more than one day at a time.

See it clearly, then take your focus off the vision and focus on the nailed scarred hand offered to you.

Lean on Him, learn from Him, obey the small nudges and follow through on the little things He asks you do.

There is nothing more amazing than the moment you “see” the life God has called you live, expect for the relationship you get to have with the amazing God who has called you.

Focus on the relationship and He will bring the rest into your reality.

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. (‭Matthew‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ NIV)

Repentance is an old word for a life transforming experience.

It is the moment that you see and understand that you CAN NOT keep going the way you have been going.

You see for the first time that there is a different way to take and that a new road that is possible for you.

You can’t take one more step on the road you have been walking on.

You must change and you know you can’t change without God.

But with God, you can.
Because of Christ, you can.
Because of His Grace, you can.

Repentance is not meant to be one time event in your life.

It is meant to be the everyday way of your new life in Christ.

Repentance is not taking one step in a new direction, it is taking every step after that in it.

What do you need to repent of today?

What old thing MUST cease and what new thing MUST begin?
