You Don’t Have To Pretend

“Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.”

Matthew 6:5-6 MSG

When you pray, you don’t have to pretend.

You don’t have to begin with what you “should” say before you get to what you need to say.

You don’t have to have the right words and sometimes you don’t need words at all.

Jesus said that you don’t have to perform for God to hear you – He hears you.

He said that you don’t need to pretend to be more “spiritual” or “religious” to be heard by Him.

Find a quiet, secluded place and just be real with God about what you are dealing with.

Be real with God and He will be real with you.

He loves you so much.

He sees your need.

He knows what’s in your heart.

The most important thing about prayer is that you do it and prayer is the most important thing that you can do today.

What You Need Today

“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.”Ephesians 3:16 NLT

God has some glorious and unlimited resources for you today.

You can have His strength to love, to walk, to work, to hold on to hope and let go of fear.

You can have His grace to cover your mistakes and feed your compassion.

You can have His joy to see the beauty of humanity that is all around you.

You can have His kindness to be gentle with those who are closest to you.

You can have His vision to see others as He does and love them with His love.

You can be empowered to live loved as a child of God and do His will on earth as it is in heaven.

Not by your strength but by His.

Not from your limited resources, but from His unlimited and glorious resources.

Not so you will “look strong” on the outside but so that you will “be strong” on the inside.

You have so much more at your disposal than you realize.

All you have to do is ask.

You have Jesus and He brings all of heaven with Him.

In Need of Grace

There is no such thing as “us” and “them.”

There is just us.

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

One who has been touched by grace will no longer look on those who stray as “those evil people” or “those poor people who need our help.”  Nor must we search for signs of “love-worthiness.”  Grace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are.

– Phillip Yancey

We are all in need of the grace and mercy of God…everyday.

Give some to yourself today and give some to someone else too, I guarantee they need it.

Real Power

Do you struggle with asking for help when you need it?

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Real strength doesn’t come from pretending you have it but in admitting that you don’t.

Real power comes from knowing you can’t do this on your own and that you need help.

Needing Jesus every day is not admitting defeat.

It is the key to victory.

Unlimited and Glorious

Monday
“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.”
Ephesians 3:16 NLT
God has glorious and unlimited resources for you today.

You have His strength to love, to walk, to work, to hold on to hope and let go of fear.

You have His grace to cover your mistakes and feed your compassion.

You have His joy to see the ordinary beauty of humanity that is all around you.

You have His kindness to be gentle with those who are closest to you.

You have His vision to see others as He does and love them appropriately.

You are empowered to live loved as a child of God and do His will on earth as it is in heaven.

Not by your strength but by His.

Not from your limited resources, but from His unlimited and glorious resources.

Not so you will “look strong”  on the outside but so that you will “be strong” on the inside.
Receive it.
Rest in it.
Walk in it.
You have so much more at your disposal than you realize.
You have Jesus and He brings all heaven with Him.

Love is Not Proud

4492

Love is not proud.

Pride is the thing that keeps you from asking for help because you don’t want others to think you have a problem, even if you do.

Pride is the thing that keeps you silent when you should speak because you don’t want to cause trouble or cause a scene even if what you need to say is true.

Pride is the thing that prevents you from reconciling because you are right. And being right is more important than a person.

Pride keeps you safe.

Except it doesn’t.

It keeps you isolated.

No matter how any people you have in your life, trying to love them through the lens of pride keeps you disconnected and self protected.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV

Love is not proud.

You are loved and you are made to love others freely, fully, with hope and joy.

Lay down your pride and let love heal what is broken.

On the Border

“That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud.” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭14:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Why did the people of Israel weep?

Because 10 of the 12 spies that Moses sent into the promised land came back saying it was impossible. And the people believed them instead of believing God.

They mourned as if they were already defeated when in truth, they had not even begun.

This nation of former slaves looked at the promised land in fear because it was going to be difficult.

They wanted the promise but only if God was going to make it easy for them.

Stepping into your promised land isn’t going to be easy.

You are going to have to fight for it, face the giants and trust God to take you to a new level of trust in Him.

God has brought you this far and He will take you all the way in.

Getting there is going to be one step of faith after another.

It will always be a walk of faith.

You can trust God to give you what you will need when you will need it to do what He has called you to do.

Wipe your tears, lace up your shoes and go for all God has for you.

I will join you.

What Do You Need Today?

Life is unpredictable.

Every day brings the unexpected and unplanned for.

The good news is that you have Jesus. He is here to guide you through it. He is your Shepherd.  He sees ahead, helps you walk through, takes you where you need to go and protects you along the way. Dangers may loom, predators may attack but you are not alone.

“GOD, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.  You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.”

Psalm 23:1-3 MSG

Are you tired and worn out?

Jesus has quiet waters to restore your tired soul. Quiet means still, waters are refreshing. When was the last time you just let all around you become quiet and refreshed your spirit?

Is your soul starved?

Jesus will lead you to green pastures that will feed your hungry heart. He has made you with intentional and unique ways of refilling yourself when you’re empty. When was the last time you spent time doing what fills your soul?

Are you feeling lost?

God will guide you to the right paths that will bring God glory. He has created you on purpose for a purpose and will guide you in it. When was the last time you asked Him to show you the right path for this season? Often we continue in an old path from an old season until we look around and say, “I’m not in the right place”. Jesus is a present God who will give you updated guidance on the right path you are meant to be on.

He will lead you through the hills, the valleys, the deserts, and all the while, in the middle of it all, will provide a place for you to rest, refill, refocus in Him.

Jesus is the good Shepherd and He will lead you to what you really need today.

The glorious riches of God have not been used up.
His resources have not been depleted.
His kingdom does not work the way the earth’s kingdom does.
It does not go bankrupt, it does not come with sanctions.
God’s measure of giving doesn’t mirror man’s way of giving.
He does not give according to your goodness but according to His own.
All of it is accessed through Jesus Christ.
He is the bridge between you and God.
He is the payment for your sin.
He is the Redeemer of what has been stolen.
He is the restorer of what has been lost.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭
Philippians‬ ‭4:19‬ ‭NIV
He who has saved you, sacrificed Himself for you, stands as an advocate to the Father on your behalf, is able to meet the need you have today.
What do you need?
Jesus is able.
