Little Things

Some of the best moments with God are the smallest of them.

The ordinary, mundane moments of your day.

They are moments of unseen beauty.

They are being fully present in the simple things.

These little altars are precious gifts to the in-the-moment relationship-building God.

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Don’t get caught up in the world’s view of important and busy.

Make the small moments of today an offering to God.

You see, life with Jesus isn’t about doing things for Him but doing things with Him – especially the little things.

May today’s mundane moments and unseen duties be filled with sweet worship and small offerings of fellowship with your very present God.

Humble

I know that the word humble can be a hard one to grasp.

First of all, it has nothing to do with being humiliated or feeling humiliated.

Second, it is not about doing but about being.

It is about identity and living out of it.

It is leadership but it doesn’t look like what you are used to.

It is knowing who you are in Christ as well as knowing who Christ is in you:

He is your Savior, redeemer, creator, all-powerful God.

He is your guide, strength, hope, and peace.

He is the great I AM and has unlimited power and reach.

Jesus is the greatest in heaven and made himself the least on earth. Not because He had forgotten who He was but because He knew with full confidence who He was.

In the first three chapters of Ephesians after encouraging the church in Ephesus to live out of their new identity in Christ, He tells them:

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Being humble means you can lead others without being bossy.

Being humble means that you can be happy and content when you are not in control.

Being gentle means that you have unclinched your hands from steering the direction of your life and have let Jesus take the lead.

Being patient means bearing with those who don’t deserve your patience and loving people who are not easy to love.

This is about the little things that can undo our composure: the unexpected phone calls, the interruptions that add or postpone your to-do list, the change of plans because some people are unorganized.

These are the moments when being humble matters the most.

There are moments when being gentle makes all the difference.

These are the moments when others will recognize that the patience you are extending to them is not natural but God-given.

These are the moments Jesus shines bright through you.

May you so confidently know who you are in Christ that you are able to gracefully engage with all that challenges it today.

Favor of Faithfulness

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:3-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This morning, my friend, I want to remind you to be faithful to what God has already asked you to do. I want to remind you that faithfulness and love can be your top priority.

What would your life look like if you finished what you started?

What if you did it without sacrificing love?

What if your behavior was driven by kindness and completed by uncomplicated faithfulness every day?

Not out of legalism but out of love.

Not to earn anything but to embrace everything God has already given you.

Are you missing out on the favor of faithfulness that God has for you?

It is better to be faithful in a few things than unfaithful in many.

What few things are you working on?
