Invest in Rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 NIV

The Greek word for “rest” in Matthew 11:28 means:

1) to cause or permit one to cease from any movement or labor in order to recover and collect his strength

2) to give rest, refresh, to give one’s self rest, take rest

3) to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation

It is an invitation from Jesus to stop your work and invest in rest.

Make time to stop producing, stop creating and simply breathe.

Take a minute or an hour to do something that fills your soul.

Close your eyes so you can really see what is going on inside of you.

Open your eyes to love the people who are around you.

It is not a one-time invitation, it is a spiritual investment for a lifestyle of trust.

Jesus is saying “come to me” whenever you need to rest and as often as you need to rest.

Are you soul tired today?

Come to Jesus, His arms are open for you.

 

 

Mistake Making

You are going to make a mistake today.
It will not be the end of the world.
Failure is not fatal.
Jesus told a story in Matthew 25 about a servant who was so afraid to make a mistake that he decided to do nothing. He took what his master gave him to invest and he buried it.
The story ends with these words,
“Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most.
And get rid of this ‘play-it-safe’ who won’t go out on a limb.”
Matthew 25: 24,26,30 MSG
God is calling you to grow. Take what He has given you and invest it.
You will never get anywhere if you run back to what you know at every challenge.
A mistake means that you are trying, so pick yourself up off the ground and try again.
Do something new.
Relate to people in a new way.
Reach out beyond your comfort zone.
Take that step of faith …again.
Risk failure.
My friend, get out there and make some new mistakes today.  Get out of your comfort zone, risk and do something with the gifts God has placed in your hands.

When you step out in faith and put yourself out there, life will push back.
It’s not going to be easy and you will make mistakes.
A mistake means that you are trying,
so pick yourself up off the ground and try again.
Do something new.
Relate to people in a new way.
Reach out beyond your comfort zone.
Take that step of faith …again.
Risk failure.
Failure is not fatal.

I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent…’

My friend, get out there and make a lot of new mistakes, get out of your comfort zone, risk and invest what God has placed in your hands. You don’t have to play it safe with the love and grace of God – He has more than enough for you to give it away freely and without fear.
