If I Can

img_2904-2

Sometimes your “ifs” are not because you doubt God but because you doubt yourself.

You are judging the possibilities of the future based on what you can do and God is asking you to judge the possibilities of the future based on what He can do.

God continually wants to expand your perspective and challenge the boundaries of your possibilities.

Most of the time it is because they are too limited.

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?’ Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’”
‭‭
Mark‬ ‭9:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I’m asking God to blow your mind and give you a glimpse of His purposes and plans for your future.

I’m praying that He will expand the boundaries of what you think is possible and take the limits off what you think God can do in your life.

What do you need to do today to bust it wide open and begin dreaming again?

Jesus had face time with His Father before He faced the storm.

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.

Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.

Matthew 14:22-25

He stood on the shore alone. Jesus didn’t look for a boat or wait until He found one. He just walked right into the storm by doing the impossible and walked on the water.

You may feel like you are facing an impossible situation.

Good news: your Savior knows how to do impossible things.

Jesus knows where you are at and what you are facing.

When things get overwhelming, lean in and hear His voice: “Before you face the day, get face to face with Me. I will bring you through it. I know the way”.

“We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all-all but the sin.

So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give.

Take the mercy, accept the help”.

Hebrews 4:15, 16 MSG

“If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it”.

Impossibility

img_4991-1

In Exodus 14 the Israelites were stuck between the sea before them and their former slave masters coming to recapture them. It was an impossible situation.

“But Moses told the people,

‘Don’t be afraid.

Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today.

The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.

The LORD himself will fight for you.

Just stay calm.”’

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭14:13-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Hemmed in by the mountains on both sides,  they had no way out and no way forward. Their new found freedom seemed fleetingly short and ultimately doomed.

They knew that God had delivered them from slavery but little more. They had not been free long enough to learn how powerful He is. They didn’t know that He would fight for them, split the sea before them and rescue them from an impossible situation.

They did not know God…yet.

When you don’t want to go back but don’t know how you are going to go forward, trust God and:

1. Don’t be afraid (don’t let fear dictate your decisions).

2. Stand still and watch the LORD rescue you (stop trying to fix the situation yourself. Let God work).

The LORD Himself will fight for you.

When going forward looks like an impossibility, God is not punishing you, He is teaching you more about Himself.

Trust Him and watch what He is about to do.

Take the Plunge

IMG_1674

“He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:19‬ ‭MSG

There comes a point in life that your faith becomes stronger by facing the facts.  The facts being that human effort can not achieve the fulfillment of God’s promise.

That thing that God has called you to? You can’t make it happen. You never could.

Once you really grasp this your faith is set free to rest in God alone.

To be who Jesus has created you to be you are going to have to let go of  “doing your best” and embrace “depending on God”.

This sets you free to shift your focus from yourself and your works to God and His works.

It shifts from giving yourself the glory of “today, I did a good job” or depression of ”I totally missed it” to giving God all the glory for all He has done and will do, instead.

God chose you.

God chose you to be a partner in the promise but the lion’s share of strength, inspiration, motivation, and miracle is all God’s.

Your part is to receive, rest, wait, and give glory to God.

Your part is to live fully persuaded that God is able to do above and beyond all you can ask or imagine.

My friend, don’t tiptoe around God’s promises today, dive into them.  Take the plunge and live fully persuaded.

You Can Do All Things…

large

…through Him who gives you strength.

Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. GOD, your God, is with you every step you take.”
Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭1-9‬ MSG

You may be at a crossroads today.

You may be tired and worn out.

Maybe a bit discouraged and overwhelmed.

You know that the task before you is too big for you to do on your own.

God knows this too.

He doesn’t intend for you to do it on your own or by yourself.

He intends for you to move forward with Him.

To face the impossible challenge with Him.

To take the promised land back from the enemy and learn to live in it with Him.

So when you  are at this crossroad wondering if you should keep going forward or if you even have the strength to, hear these words from your Father in heaven:

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ NIV

Should you move forward?

Yes
.

Can you?

Yes
.

Why?

Because you can do all things through Him who strengthens you.

Invited to Do the Impossible

“’Come,’ he said.  Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.”
Matthew‬ ‭14:28-29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It’s impossible to walk on water.

It’s impossible to feed 5000 people with a small boy’s lunch.

It’s impossible to heal a man born blind.

Jesus did all this and more while inviting his disciples to join him.

Jesus will invite you to do the impossible without expecting you to do it in your own strength. He knows you can’t do it without him. He fully expects you to fully depend on him for it.

Peter wanted to be where Jesus was, which happened to be on the water.

Peter helped Jesus feed over 5000 people by doing what Jesus told him to do: pass out bread and fish.

Neither miracle came from Peter’s faith but from Peter’s focus. He was focused on following Jesus, on being where Jesus was and ended up doing impossible things.

When you follow Jesus, you will end up doing impossible things because of who He is not because of who you are.

Whew, that is a relief.

You are invited to do the impossible with Jesus.

Instead of fixating on how impossible it is to walk in the freedom Jesus paid for you to live in, just admit to yourself that IS IMPOSSIBLE in your own strength.

Without Jesus there is no way you can forgive your abuser, be set free from your past, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, be free from guilt and condemnation, walk away from a lifetime of lies and bondage and embrace the truth that you are a precious cherished child of God who is free to live every day in the lavish love of Jesus Christ.

Don’t focus on what is impossible.

Don’t even focus on your own faith.

Focus on following Jesus and following through on what He has asked you to do.

Today I am praying for you to receive all Jesus has for you, to boldly go with Him to places you have never been before. To experience new life, new love, new freedom, new hope and a new normal.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Believe God Anyway

img_6841

Abraham was first named “father” and then became a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise the dead to life, with a word make something out of nothing.

When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:17-18‬ ‭MSG‬‬

I want to encourage you today that no matter how dark the situation may seem to believe that God can do something about it anyway.

I want to challenge you to dare to trust Him in the desert – there is a promised land and you are on your way to it.

My prayer for you is that like Abraham you will decide to live today not based on what you can’t do but on what God can do through you. His power sustaining you to walk, to love, to care and to be fully alive even though you may feel dead inside.

Long before he saw the fruit of the promise, Abraham believed God anyway. Though everything in his life seemed to indicate otherwise, He lived his life, every day, not looking at the impossibility of the promise but in the possibility of God.
Because God initiated it, Abraham believed that God would fulfill it.

I am sure that there were times that Abraham barely believed. I know that there were days that he was only holding on to a bare thread of hope…but he held on.

Hold on, my friend, you may have only had a thread of hope but in Christ, that thread is stronger than what you face and will hold against that which you fear.

I know you don’t see how it will happen but God does. He can see how and he knows when.

Hold on.

Hold on to Jesus…He is holding onto you.
