Glory and Gratitude

There are two things that will keep your thinking clear and your hearts filled with God’s divine love: giving God glory and giving God thanks.

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭21‬ NIV

You can know God and still get in a mental habit of worry and fear.

When you make thanksgiving and worship a daily necessity you are fortifying your spiritual life and strengthening your mental one.

It is the difference between enduring and embracing your life.

It is replacing with worry with worship and fear with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving for what you have instead of dwelling on what you are afraid of losing.

Jesus died and rose again so that you can invite God into those places.

What are you thankful for today?

How will you worship Jesus today?

Equipped

daily-motivational-quotes17-2

God has not equipped you to do everything but He, God, has equipped you with everything you need to do His will today.

Wherever you are, with what you are dealing with right now.

God has equipped you for today.

Don’t worry about tomorrow.

Forget about yesterday.

Be fully present today.

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:20-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Unexpected Turbulence

38dd78ee3338cc4d56ed95c6fdef7145-christian-faith-christian-quotes
You have been created to do more than just make a good life.
You have been redeemed to live a God discovering, God serving, God ordained life.
But sometimes you hit some turbulence on the journey.
You are on the plane and heading to the right destination but that doesn’t mean that the ride itself is easy.
If you are a human living in this broken world – it’s not easy.
Something happens that disrupts you, shakes you up, scares you. You begin to worry if you will ever get “there”.
I want you to know that Jesus knows what is shaking you up and what is disrupting your journey. He knows your journey will not be easy and that turbulence will happen.
What I love about God is that He uses those times to draw us closer to Him.
You may think that freedom in Christ means that there will be no suffering. It doesn’t work that way.  Jesus paid for your freedom by suffering not so you would never suffer but so you may use suffering to experience more of Him.
The Bible doesn’t promise a non-stop flight to heaven free of trial and turbulence.
“And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
Romans 5:2-4 NIV
Jesus promises that He will be with you on the journey, whatever it brings, especially the turbulence.
My prayer for you today is that instead of the turbulence shaking you up, you will use it to let God work perseverance into your character and give you a deep hope as you journey with Him.
I am praying that you will join Paul and not let the suffering shake you but that you would glory in it because suffering seasons work the truth of who God is in you in ways that smooth sailing never will.

Hope Full

god-will-make-a-way

Where you place your hope is important.

If you put your hope in yourself, you will be disappointed – you are human.

If you place your hope in another person, you will be disappointed – they are human.

If you place your hope in hope itself, it is a powerless, empty idea – like a wish.

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm‬ ‭25‬:‭5‬ NIV

Put your hope in God.

Jesus is real, bigger than your situation and does more than just offer you hope, he offers you the truth to walk in.  He teaches you how to walk in it.

He empowers you to be brave, to see his vision for your life and rest in his loving arms while you wait.

My prayer for you today is that you would be filled with the Holy Spirit and walk in his truth.  I believe that your questions will be answered and the path will open up before you when the time is right.

May your hope quotient be full and heart secure in Jesus as you tackle the daily tasks of living and bring glory to Him in everything that you do today.

Not a Spectator

God will give you what you need today to thrive, not just survive.

God’s plan is that you would be an active participator in your life, not just a passive spectator to it.

No matter how tired you are, God will give you what you need to take part in, to enjoy and to discover everything bright and beautiful that He has planned for you today.

You may say, “there is nothing bright or beautiful about today”. You may not see it, but God does, not because the day has it within itself but because God has it within Himself.

God has inlaid gifts of joy and moments of wonder even in the most mundane of days.

His presence alone can bring glory to the most ordinary tasks and an awareness of the beauty of life into the dullest of days.

Whatever tasks lay before you today, ask Jesus to show you the gifts He has placed in them and ask the Father to give you the strength to participate in them.

“It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

May you be filled with moments of surprising beauty and unique joy as you invite Jesus into every moment.

Thanks and Glory

The Edge of Eternity

We are all walking on the edge of eternity.

Because of Jesus, we come to the edge of glory without fear.

“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.

The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.”

1 Peter  1:3-5 MSG

On the morning of December 22, 1899, one of the great preachers of his time, DL Moody, came to the edge of glory. Before he slipped away, his son Will, heard him slowly articulate these words:

“Earth recedes, heaven opens before me”.

Will said to him, “Father, you are dreaming”, to which Moody replied, “No. This is no dream, Will. It is beautiful. It is like a trance. If this is death, it is sweet, God is calling me and I must go. Don’t call me back”.

Today I am reminded that my real home is with God. My destiny is beyond the veil of mortality. Death is not the end- it is only the beginning.

The year that DL Moody died, he spoke the following words to a crowd in New York City:

“Someday you will read in the paper that Moody is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now… I was born of the flesh in 1837, I was born of the Spirit in 1855. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the Spirit shall live forever.”

With our eyes, we only see this side of eternity but with our hearts we can see the glimmer of glory that seeps in past this present temporary reality to remind us that there is more. Eternity is a step away. Heaven awaits.

Do You Have a Dream?

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that his children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. He had a dream of a equality for every human being regardless of race or circumstance. He was a preacher of the gospel who loved Jesus and lived out the love of God in extraordinary ways during a tumultuous time in history.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream but it wasn’t just his dream- it was a dream born in the heart of God. It was God’s dream. It is God’s dream and one that was paid dearly for by His Son:

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:26-28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God used Martin Luther King Jr. to be a voice of resounding faith in his time.

God used his words to inspire and speeches to ignite hope for a nation that looked like the world as God originally created it to be: not judged by the color of your skin, not by your gender or by your class but by your faith and as He child. That dream was broken by sin but redeemed by Jesus Christ.

In Christ, we are equal before God, precious and valuable, chosen and anointed to walk, talk and live as His ambassadors, as His own children on earth. That through you and me, God’s will would be done on earth as it is in heaven through our lives, our choices, our words, our actions.

It is God’s dream that you don’t get caught up in trying to be politically correct but strive to be spiritually relevant in word and deed.

It is God’s dream that as you put your full focus on Him, He pours out His love through you to those around you.

God gave Martin Luther King Jr. a gift for words and His dream to see equality for all.

God has given you gifts to use and a dream to use them for His glory today.

What is your  God- given dream?

What is stopping you from pursuing it?

Begin today where you are. Begin today in the small things and let God take care of the big things.

Don’t get distracted by other people’s  opinions.

Don’t let disappointment derail you.
Hold on to Jesus, keep your eyes toward him and take the next step forward in faith.

Unexpected Opportunities

Unexpected opportunities to shine your light look different than you think they do.

They come when you are grumpy and tired. They come when you’ve spent your energy and are done.

If you are like me, you can do pretty well with expected opportunities to shine. You can plan and prepare. Maybe practice a bit in your mind, you know, go through the situation a few times mentally. But the unexpected opportunities are not in your plans. They are inconvenient. They come with people who are demanding and immature. They come from people who have already spent the allotted amount of patience you have for them.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I know that the word humble can be a hard one to understand. It has nothing to do with being humiliated. Being humble in the way this verse refers to is a state of resting in a security of self that is forged by your salvation. It is knowing who you are in Christ as well as knowing who Chist is in you: He is Savior, forgiver, redeemer, creator, all powerful God. He is your guide, your strength, your hope and your peace. He is the great I AM and is unlimited in power and reach. He is the light of the world.

Being humble means that you can be happy and content when you are not in control.

Being gentle means that you have unclinched your hands from steering the direction of your life and have let Jesus take the wheel.

Being patient means bearing with those who don’t deserve your patience and loving people who are not easy to love.

I’m not really talking about the big things here but the little ones. The unexpected phone calls. The interruptions that add or postpone your to-do list. The change of plans because some people are unorganized.

These are the moments when being humble matters the most.

There are the moments when being gentle makes all the difference.

These are the moments when others will recognize that the patience you are extending to them is not natural but must be from God.

These are the moments Jesus shines through you. These are your unexpected opportunities to shine your light.
