For Today

“Keep us alive with three square meals.”
Mathew 6:11 MSG

Daily bread.

Daily strength.

Daily sustenance.

Lord, give me what I need for today.

Not what I needed yesterday.

Not what I will need for tomorrow.

What I need today.

It will probably look different than I expect it to but it will do the job nonetheless.

You are good like that.

Thank you, Lord, for daily bread.

More Than That

Life is more than what you eat & drink (or don’t eat & drink). More than what you wear. More than what other people think of you.

If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion.

There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.

Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. (Matthew 6:25, 26 MSG)

It is easy to get distracted from what fills your spirit by focusing on filling your stomach or filling your closet.

I am not talking about dieting or shopping. I am talking about knowing that your value doesn’t come from either one of those.

Life is about more than food and clothes.

Life is about love, about risk, about adventure. Life is about serving, giving, helping, loving.

Life is about being filled with God’s amazing grace every day and then pouring out on all those around us.

Life is about worshipping God when we wake, when we walk, when we clean, when we work, when we eat, when we get dressed.

Life is about knowing that you are saved by grace because of the sacrifice of Jesus. Life is about knowing that you are reconciled to your Father in heaven and loved by him.

Life is about knowing that when God looks at you, He loves you for who you are and whose you are – His, not because of what you wear or what you eat or don’t eat or even because what you do or don’t do.

You are a child of God who is cherished, chosen and provided for.

Are you free and unfrettered today?

You Are

You are not actually what you eat.
You are not what you wear.
You are more than both of those things.
Life is about more than food and clothes.

Whether you are born in a place where you spend so much time trying to decide what not to wear and what not eat because you have so many choices or you are born in a place where you don’t know where your next meal is coming from or if your shoes will last until you can get new ones- obsession in either way steals your time, energy and focus off what life is really about.

Get your new groove on

Since we are talking about partying this week, I wanted to encourage you to get your new groove on and leave your old ones in the dust:

“Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now.”
(1Pet.1:14 MSG)

Old grooves. Old habits. Old lies. Old life.

You have a new purpose and it is not driven by emotions.
You have an new energy source that is not food.
You have a new direction that you can’t get from Google.
God has new grooves for you to make today.

New habits. New truths. New life.

No excuses.

You are loved – now live like it.
