The Main Goal

The important thing about goals is having the right goals.

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ NIV

Don’t waste your life going after goals to make yourself more comfortable.

Go after Jesus– His love, His agenda and His goals for your life (which has more to do with who you are than what you look like and giving more than getting more).

Life following Jesus is not comfortable or easy – it is unique, unexpected and adventurous.

At the end of your life, you may or may not have human praise and awards but if you choose the goal of letting God transform you with His love, you will have rich relationships, miraculous moments and the most important thing you can have with you as you step into eternity – Jesus.

He is the prize.

Go after Jesus and make your relationship with Him the main goal of your life.

The rest of your goals will fall in line.

May you clearly hear His voice, boldly follow His guidance and passionately pursue His heart in all things today.

How I Now Live

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20 NIV

Your life as a Jesus follower is not about what you are capable of doing, it’s about what Jesus is capable of doing through you.

Your body is His to use, your mind is His to fill, your heart is His to heal.

His mission is your mission, His vision is your vision, His power is your power.

This life is no longer yours, it is His life lived through you.

I have learned that Jesus will take all the life you are “able” to give Him and live through it.

My friend, surrender all you can today, then all you can tomorrow.

Jesus will receive it with joyous love.

He will embrace it with strong arms of grace.

He will take you to places of faith you couldn’t have even imagined the first moment that you surrendered your life and chose to live by faith in the Son of God.

You have more life now than you did then.

Today is a good day to surrender all the life you have to Jesus… again.

Unless you have never done this, in that case, today is the perfect day to surrender your whole life Jesus for the first time.

Are you living by faith in the Son of God or faith in yourself?

What do you have to surrender?

How does the Son of God want to live through you today?

Goals

Whose Yoke?

When your shoulders feel burdened and your heart is heavy, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

When stress bears down on your neck and depression clouds your mind, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

When despair shuts down your vision and hopelessness siphons your strength, you need to ask whose yoke you are wearing.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When Jesus is offering you His yoke, it is an invitation to lay down whatever you are carrying (the yoke you have been walking in) whether it’s heavy because of what others have put on it or because of the burdens you yourself have added.

It is an invitation to come alongside Jesus and yoke up with Him.  His yoke is light for you because He bears all the weight of it. The word used for “easy” doesn’t mean without effort, it means “fit for use”.

There is still a yoke to bear and burden to carry.  The difference is that Jesus bears the weight of it and gently trains you how to fully function in it.

How to walk and rest, follow and trust, and with Him function faithfully in God’s purposes for you.

Are you bearing your own yoke? Your own plans, purposes and expectations?

Are you walking in someone else’s yoke? Someone else’s plans, purposes and expectations?

What are God’s plans, purposes and expectations for this day? What would it look like to walk in them?

May you check whose yoke you are wearing often and learn from Jesus how to be fully yoked with Him. May you trust His gentle heart and let Him lead you to unseen delights of service to others today.

Happy Labor Day!

Take A Hike

“When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions.” ( Matthew 5:1-2 MSG)

Sometimes Jesus calls you to climb a mountain with Him. He draws you away from the noise of life to an isolated, quiet place. A place that you can hear Him clearly with no distractions. A can feel like a lonely place but know that God has brought you there to get your attention. He wants to show you something. Something powerful that will transform your loneliness to fruitfulness and your aimless wandering to guided, thriving, abundant life.

I don’t love hiking (a.k.a. climbing a mountain) but truthfully, the pros outweigh the cons:

• It forces me out of my comfort zone

• I get to see things I have never seen before

• It causes muscles to form that I never knew existed

• My breathing capacity is expanded and heart is strengthened

Jesus loved crowds. He taught them, healed them and fed them. However, the teaching He was about to give was not for the crowds, it was for the climbers.

When Jesus calls you to climb with Him, you can bet that it is for your benefit. You can also bet that it isn’t going to be easy. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. When Jesus calls you to climb higher it is to make you stronger.

If you are feeling lost in the crowd, maybe it is because you don’t belong there. You belong with Jesus and He is calling you to step out of the crowd and go higher with Him.

What you learn on the mount with Jesus will change your life in valley.

Leave the crowd behind and take a hilke with Jesus. It will stretch you. It will challenge you. It will change your perspective. It will expand your heart and there is nothing like it.
