Gentleness

Thursday

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When I am stressed, gentleness is not my go-to mode of operation. Frustrated, fearful, anxious, and taking control is.

The original Greek word used for gentleness in the verse above describes the heart of someone who will let God fight his battles for Him. It describes a person who has let go of trying to control the situation and allowed God to do what He needs to do through Him.

Jesus showed us what this kind of gentleness looks like. He focused on His relationship with His Father and only did what God directed Him to. He did not bend to peer pressure, comparison, or even try to fit in with anyone other than His Father. He didn’t try to control the situations or people. He focused on being faithful to the part He was given to do and allowed God to work out the rest.

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He leads gently so that you can live gently.

Gentle is not weak it is focused trust as well as a deep knowing of who you are and whose you are.

My friend, may you begin to learn to live in the power of leading a gentle life by being yoked and yielded to the gentle Savior today.

Stronger Than You Know

Being Strong Quotes You never realize how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have. -Bob Marley-min

God will give you what you need right now to fight the battle before you.

“He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭18:34-35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

My prayer for you today is that you would know His love as He pours His strength into you. That you would know His peace as you lean on Him. That you would rest in God’s grace as you walk by His guidance. That you would trust Him with the future and focus simply on the task before you. That you would be released from the restlessness within you as you receive a new determination to go forward in faith.

You are stronger than you know because you know where your strength comes from and whose Right Hand sustains you.

Fight For It

Commitment-Quotes-5

When God gives you a new vision for your life, He will equip you to live it.

When He gives you a new revelation of His relationship with you, He will empower you to experience it.

But new visions and new revelations will always come with a fight.

Whether it is the resistance of your flesh or the stubbornness of old mindsets, you will have to fight for what God has shown you and He will arm you for that as well.

Fourth of July

20140703-214908-78548922

“Let us dare to read, think, speak and write”

– John Adams

For this and so much more, I am celebrating America today.

Not because we are perfect but because we are tenacious.

Not because we have it all together but because we are willing to try and keep trying to get it together.

Not because life is easy but because life has always been hard, will not get easier but we are willing to work hard for life.

I celebrate today because I can write, think, speak and pray out loud as an American.

Tonight as I watch the fireworks being lit and fired, I will be thankful that I am alive today in this country at this time. I will pray that this year I will read ferociously, speak fearlessly, think authentically and write faithfully because I have the freedom to do so.

“I’m thanking you, GOD, from a full heart, I’m writing the book on your wonders. I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I’m singing your song, High God.” Psalm 9:1, 2 MSG

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Retreat to Advance

my-place-of-quiet-retreat-psalm-119-114-bible-daily-quotes-sayings-pictures

The word “retreat” is a military term. It means to get off the battlefield, to quit fighting, back out and regroup.

Prayer is often a retreat.

A time to take a step back.

Flee the battlefield.

Regroup, reassess, restrategize and recover.

“May God look you full in the face and make you prosper”.

Numbers 6:26 MSG

The word for “prosper” in the original Hebrew is “shalom” and often translated as peace. It is a peace that comes after the conflict, it is a quietness after the chaos and at its core, it means the type of wholeness that comes after being broken.

Fighting the battle when you’re exhausted, wounded and discouraged never works.

Are you exhausted, wounded, or discouraged?

Then it is time to retreat.

To take a step back, find a quiet place with God so He can repair what is broken, remind you of His purpose and arm you with His vision to fight the battle before you.

My prayer for you today is that you would get off the battlefield and allow God to look you full in the face and love you until you feel whole.

Jesus has given you full access to God’s presence.

Enter in and rest.

He is waiting for you.

Infused

When you are ready to be obedient, get ready to feel discouraged.

Whenever you get ready to grow, get ready for the opposition.

God doesn’t numb our emotions or take away our humanity- he allows us to feel discouraged, feel defeated, feel downcast. He doesn’t take away our humanity but what He does is give us His power.

He challenges us to not make our obedience contingent on our emotions.

He asks us to “do it afraid”. To walk forward in faith.

To fight the battle that rises up and fight all the way through to victory.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10 NIV

I love that there is a “finally” here. After all the instructions on relationship wisdom that comes before this verse, Paul has the final word you need: be strong in The Lord and in His mighty power. This means to receive strength from Him, to be endowed with it, to allow God’s mighty power to infuse your soul with strength.

You are in a battle. It is a battle you cannot win but one that has been won for you. It is a battle waged against you and the Word of God reigning in your world. God does not remove you from the battle or remove the battle from you: He fits you with His own weapons and says “FIGHT!”

Finally– when you are at the end of yourself, you are ready to really begin. BE INFUSED with His mighty power. If you are feeling weak and discouraged- you are in just the right place to receive His strength.

Be Strong!

Fight

You are in a fight for your life. You are fighting for the life God has created you to live in Him through Christ.

God has a purpose for your life,
a place for your gifts to flourish and people whose lives will be changed by God’s work through you.

But…

You are going to have to fight for it.

If your life is to have any eternal impact, you have a target on your back and battle before you.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If the enemy is trying to stop you, you can bet it is because God has purpose for you.

A purpose that is bigger than you.

A purpose that can only be done by the power of God in you.

A purpose that is worth fighting for.

The first step towards living in your purpose in God is to recognize that you are at war.

The second step is to run to God.

God is not expecting you to fight without Him, on the contrary- He is prepared to train you, equip you and go out with you.

If discouragement is bearing down on you, don’t quit- fight!

Fight for God’s purposes in you,

Fight for the place He has given you,

Fight for the people who will be impacted by you.

Don’t quit, fight.
