Strength to Get Up

Inexplicably and when it seems completely impossible, God can and will give you strength.
Strength to get up.
Strength to take care of what needs to be taken care of.
Strength to make the hard decisions.
Strength to hold onto hope.
Strength to hold onto Him.
He gives strength to the weary.
I know that many of you are facing situations that are draining your strength and leaving you feeling powerless.
It is okay to admit you are not okay.
That you are tired and feel powerless right now.
God does not ask you to “fake it until you make it”, He asks you to receive His grace for one more day.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬
What do you need strength for today?
What does it look like to admit you need help rather than “fake it until you make it”?
I am praying for you today. I am praying that you find the strength to do what needs to be done, find your way into His rest, and walk forward in a power that is not your own.

Permission to Break Down

I saw this sign this morning when I walked into Lowes to pick up a couple things for the office.
“Don’t break down”
“Hold it together”
“Be strong”

These are the words you tell yourself and mental signs you place all over your life.

I get it. I do the same thing.

There are times when it is important to put the overflowing emotions at bay and focus on what needs to happen right now. It is a means of survival and forward motion.

However, when it comes to your relationship God, you NEVER have to do this. In fact, trying to “not break down” in front of God, hinders your relationship with Him. It is pride or it is fear and neither have any place before your amazing  God.

He is the place to come when you can’t hold it together.

He is the Father’s arms that will hold you, the Saviors heart that will heal you, the Spirit’s comfort that you need the most.

You don’t have to be strong for God.
Go ahead and break down before Him.
Don’t hold it together.
Be weak.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Strength When You Need It

IMG_0060
Inexplicably and when it seems completely impossible, somehow- God can and will give you strength.

Strength to get up.

Strength to take care of what needs to be taken care of.

Strength to make the hard decisions.

Strength to hold onto hope.

Strength to hold onto Him.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
(Isaiah 40:29 NIV)

I know that many of you are facing situations that are draining your strength and leaving you feeling powerless.

It is okay to admit you are not okay.
That you are tired and feel powerless right now.

God does not ask you to
“fake it until you make it”.

He says,

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ NLT)”

May you find the strength to do what needs to be done, may you find your way into His rest and be replenished by the Savior himself and walk in a power that is not your own but given to you.

Breaking Point

I loved new reality show “Breaking Pointe” on the CW. It was a behind the scenes look at what really goes into every little girl’s dream – to be a Prima Ballerina in a Ballet Company. It was a brutal and beautiful. It helped me appreciate the work that goes into this art and I can’t even wrap my head around the goal of perfection this professionals aspire to on a daily basis.

In dance, going through the motions is called practice. In life it is called burn out. You know that when you are “going through the motions” that you are starting to snuggle with your own personal breaking point. The temptation to just do what needs to be done is strong when you are tired and spent. The “fake it until you make it” manta might help you keep your job but doesn’t do a darn thing to help keep your relationships healthy. Relationships require honesty and vulnerability, especially your relationship with God.

“Going through the motions doesn’t please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you.” Psalms 51:16 MSG

If I were a ballerina, a flawless performance would be priceless. It is the goal. No matter how much I am hurting or how much my emotions are in turmoil- I must perform flawlessly. Then I would receive the standing ovation and thunderous applause. All my hard work would be worth it. How easily this mentality seeps in our relationship with God. But he never asks us to perform flawlessly for him. God never asks us to “fake it until we make it.”

He doesn’t ask us to perform for him, God asks us to walk with him.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out by religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you will recover your life. I will show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill- fitting on you. Keep company with me and you will learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matt. 11:28-30 MSG)

If you are nearing a breaking point and you are exhausted, don’t “fake it until you make it”. Get real before God and take Christ’s invitation to get way with him and learn the the unforced rhythms of grace.

Love you.
