When You Are Tired

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

When you are tired, go to Jesus.

When you are worn out, His arms are open.

When your To-Do List is too long and you are overwhelmed, lay it down.

Get away, get out and get renewed.

With Jesus.

For an entire day.

So you can be reminded that He is God and you are not.

So you can be reminded that the world keeps turning because He IS.

So you can learn to live in the unforced rhythms of grace instead of the anarchy of urgency.

So you can live free and rested in His love.

Consistent Power

Thursday

Life may be surprising you right now.

Your reality may not be matching up with your expectations. Jesus knows where you are and what you are dealing with. He is not surprised.

When Moses asked who was sending him back to Egypt at the burning bush in Exodus, God said, tell them “I Am” is sending you.

When Jesus was standing before the Pharisees in the temple, He said: “before Abraham was, I Am” and it was the Greek equivalent to the name given to the Voice from the burning bush.

This Holy, powerful name of Almighty God embodies who He is:
1. Always Existing
2. Independently Existing
3. The “Becoming One”

Jesus will meet you right in the middle of your chaos and equip you to navigate through it.  He is the “becoming” one.

Jesus can and will become what you need.

He said:

When you are hungry:
“I am the bread of life.”
John 6:48 NIV

When you are in darkness:
“I am the light of the world.” John 9:5 NIV

When you are lost and defenseless:
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 NIV

When you are exhausted:
“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”  Psalm 118:14 NIV

Rest in Jesus.

Rest in His love.

Trust in His plan.

Unless

typography-postcard-picture-quote-5325_60

“Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭127:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You can rise early with worry and go to bed exhausted.

You can carry the weight of the work you do, the life you live and carry it squarely on your own shoulders.

The more you do, the more that must be done. The more you succeed, the more you must succeed. The best you did last week pales in comparison with the best you must do this week to keep your head above the water of whatever sea you are sinking in.

“Unless the Lord builds the house….”

Unless the Lord builds the marriage, the ministry, the job, the life….

How does God do this?

A better question is “How can I stop building my own kingdom and allow God to build His through me?”

For me, the answer involves surrender, obedience, getting out of the way and asking God to show me a new way to build. A new way to live. A new way to love. A new way to lead. Not the world’s way, not the ways I know from experience but His.

I ask Jesus every day to show me the why, the how and the way He builds lives, the way He loves and the way He leads.

Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭MSG‬‬

May you get out of your own way today.

May you surrender your “this is the way I’ve always done it” for “Jesus show me a new way”.

May you obey and put into practice whatever God shows you.

May today be the day that you love a little bit more like Jesus, lead a little bit more like Jesus and rest a lot more in His grace as you do it.

Strength to Get Up

Inexplicably and when it seems completely impossible, somehow- God can and will give you strength.

Strength to get up.

Strength to take care of what needs to be taken care of.

Strength to make the hard decisions.

Strength to hold onto hope.

Strength to hold onto Him.

He gives strength to the weary.

I know that many of you are facing situations that are draining your strength and leaving you feeling powerless.

It is okay to admit you are not okay.
That you are tired and feel powerless right now.

God does not ask you to “fake it until you make it”.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What do you need strength for today?

What does it look like to admit you need help rather than “fake it until you make it”?

May you find the strength to do what needs to be done, find your way into His rest, be replenished by the Savior Himself and walk forward in a power that is not your own.
