Walking It Out

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”     ‭‭

2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Walking is a pretty mundane activity.
It’s not as glamorous as running.
I’ve always wanted to be a runner but I am definitely not one.  I am simply a very good walker.
Walking is what you learn early by falling down a lot.
It is what gets you to the kitchen in the morning for your first cup of coffee.
It is basic and boring and taken for granted unless you can’t do it anymore.
Charles Spurgeon said,
“That man has not yet learned the true spirit of Christianity who is always saying, ‘I can preach a sermon by faith.’ Yes, sir, but can you make a coat by faith? ‘Can you cook dinner by faith?”.
The real work of life isn’t using your gifts by faith but living your life by it: Paying your bills, doing your job, cooking dinner, cleaning the toilet.
It is in these small necessary everyday things that God’s power is revealed not just in the great things but in the small ordinary ones.
It is when God’s grace and power are evident in washing the dishes when you are tired and spent.
It is when you stop yourself from going all buck wild on the attitude you just received from your teenager.
It is when the holiday isn’t working out to be what you hoped for but you are able to roll with the punches and still enjoy the special moments that would otherwise be buried in resentment and disappointment.
When what you see does not dictate how you behave.
That is when faith leads your life instead of sight.
It isn’t very exciting but it is totally life-giving.
Don’t worry about running your faith race today, just focus on walking it out faithfully.
Love you.
Today may you walk slowly, steadily and consistently in faith in who Jesus is, what He has done and in who He is re-creating you to be.

Daily Strength

“Give us today our daily bread.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Lord, give me what I need for today.

Not what I needed yesterday.

Not what I will need for tomorrow.

What I need today.

Today’s strength.

Today’s sustenance.

Today’s vision.

Today’s peace that passes understanding.

It might look different than I expect it to but it will do the job nonetheless.

You are amazing like that.

Thank you, Lord, for today’s provision, for today’s daily bread.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

For Today

“Keep us alive with three square meals.”
Mathew 6:11 MSG

Daily bread.

Daily strength.

Daily sustenance.

Lord, give me what I need for today.

Not what I needed yesterday.

Not what I will need for tomorrow.

What I need today.

It will probably look different than I expect it to but it will do the job nonetheless.

You are good like that.

Thank you, Lord, for daily bread.

Enough

“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭30‬:‭7-8‬ NIV)

Life is a journey to eternity, one day at a time.

It takes vision to see that if you focus on what is true, if your think what is true,
if you speak what is true, that it will radically impact the course of your life.

How much of our lives are spent wrestling with lies told to us and paying for the lies we tell others?

How much of our relationships are bogged down in the mire of trying to figure out what is true and what is false?

It takes wisdom to know that
you don’t learn this in a day,
but you learn it one day at a time.

Give me only my daily bread.

Give me what I need today.

Give me
just enough food,
just enough money,
just enough strength,
just enough grace,
just enough love,
just enough perseverance for today.

Give me just enough for today.

Let me eat until I’m satisfied,
pay the bills due today,
use all the strength, grace, love and perseverance that you have given me to get through today and have none left over.

When you know that enough will be provided for tomorrow, you can rest in the enough you have today.

Two things I am asking God to give you today: the ability to focus, think and speak the (His) truth in your life,

And

The ability to trust, rest in and enjoy your enough for today.
