“See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Promised Land was before them.  A land for them to conquer, settle in and prosper in and they were afraid.

They saw the giants and established city walls and were discouraged.

They only saw the insurmountable obstacles in front of them instead of seeing the unlimited power of their God to overcome those obstacles.

It is easy to see why: the promised land holds fierce battles, starting over and learning new skills, like how to grow your own food. No more mana in the promised land.

In the life of a Christian, the promised land is living fully in Christ. Taking hold of His promises and living in His power. It means following, obeying and trusting Him in all circumstances.

It also means that there will be fierce battles with your flesh. Some would rather go back to slavery and be assured of being fed than starting over again and learning new skills.

It is time for you to go forward, start over and learn new skills.

It is time to leave the mountain you have been stuck on and move on to the life in Christ that has been provided to you by the cross.

How do you get unstuck?

Stop listening to your fears and start obeying your God.

Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.

Change doesn’t occur without courage.

It takes a special kind of stubbornness to start a new thing in your life, to change the course of it.

A stubbornness to keep going against the odds and swim against the current.

Life in Christ means that you are being called upon to be a pioneer. He is calling you to be the first in your family to stay married, to break the cycle of unhealthy habits or to break the cycle of emotional or physical abuse.

But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion. It won’t be long now, he’s on the way; he’ll show up most any minute. But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust; if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy. But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:32-39‬ ‭MSG‬‬

God is asking you to be a change maker and to be stubborn about it.

Be stubborn about your goals but flexible about your methods. Jesus never did the same miracle twice. Each one was different and unique.

Be creative, use what God has given you and fight for change. Change worth having is worth fighting for.

Go ahead – be stubborn and be courageous today.

The Call To Courage

There comes a point in life that your faith will become stronger by facing the facts. The facts being that human effort can not achieve the fulfillment of God’s promise. You can’t make it happen. You never could.

You “try” because you don’t know any other way of faith. Until your “try” gets depleted and you inevitably come to the conclusion that you can’t do it.

That is the moment your faith is set free to rest in God alone. You let go of your “doing your best” and embrace dependence on God. You shift your focus from yourself and your works to God and His works.

You begin to give God glory for all He has done and will do, instead of giving yourself the glory of “today, I did a good job” or depression of ” today I totally missed the target”.

“Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.(‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭19-21‬ NIV)

God chose you, chose to have a relationship with you, to partner with you but the lion’s share of strength, inspiration, motivation and miracle is God’s.

The call to courage is to let go of “try” and grab hold of “depend more on God”.

The call to courage is to live fully persuaded.

Do you know what is courageous?

– Let go of what happened yesterday and ask God to bless today with his strength, grace and wisdom.

– Forgive. Forgive yourself, forgive them.

– Take the next step whether you feel like it or not.

– Get up after you have fallen flat on your face and begin again…again.

– Let go of your disappointment and begin to believe that yes, what you hope for is possible with God’s help.

Life takes courage.

Good thing you have a lifetime supply.

“Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon.”
(Psalm 31:24 MSG)

What is Courageous

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭15‬ NIV)

I think one of the most courageous thing is to speak the truth in love.

It is easier to say the thing that others expect you to say.

To say the thing that will make you look good or get you off the hook.

To say the thing that will not cause conflict.

Is is the easiest not say anything at all.

It is courageous to speak the truth.

To be vulnerable.

To be real.

And to say it in love (not in insecurity, not in hurt, not in defensiveness but in love).

Change happens and life changes when you speak the truth in love.

Be courageous.
