Rest Is

“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”

Isaiah 30:15 NIV

Rest is spiritual and powerful.

It is an indispensable weapon of warfare.

It is when you turn from fear and launch yourself into God’s arms.

It is to pause the relentless cycle of thoughts fueled by fear or the need to control everything and everyone.

It is choosing to trust God with your world.

It is getting out and enjoying God’s creation.

It is laughing with your friends.

It is playing your favorite game with people you love.

It is one of the most powerful things you can do.

Rest is essential and as you rest, God’s power flows.

Gentleness Is Not Weakness

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The original Greek word used for gentleness in the verse above describes the heart of someone who will let God fight his battles for Him.

It describes a person who has let go of trying to control the situation and allowed God to do what He needs to do through Him.

Jesus showed us what this kind of gentleness looks like. He focused on His relationship with His Father and did what God directed Him to do.

He did not bend to peer pressure, comparison, or even try to fit in with anyone other than His Father.

He didn’t try to control the situation or people.

He focused on being faithful to the part He was given to do and allowed God to work out the rest.

He leads gently so that you and I can live gently.

Gentleness is not weakness. On the contrary, it is focused trust founded in a deep knowing of who you are in Christ.

My friend, may you begin to learn to live in the power of leading a gentle life by being yoked and yielded to the gentle Savior today and every day after.

I am praying for a refreshing wind of restoration to sweep away the cobwebs of past fear and past regrets that have been clinging to your soul.

That worries and wonderings of “what it’s” or “should have’s” that make no difference would be washed away because what is done is done and today is a new day.

A new day to invite God in.

A new day to embrace the hope you have in Christ.

A new day to walk in the power and purpose of God as if it is the first day of the rest of your life…because it is.

There is a sweet joy that captures the soul the moment you receive the washing away of yesterday and release the white knuckling hold you have on tomorrow into God’s hands.

It’s not a bad way to start the week.

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭51:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

May your spirit be open to new discoveries of the grace of God and well up into a new willingness to hope again. To pray again. To know Him more and better today than you did yesterday.

Be Gentle

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. (Philippians 4:4, 5 NIV)

Why do we need the reminder to “let our gentleness rule”?

Because when we stress and worry, try to control and mold things the way we think they should be, gentleness is the last thing that we are.

The word used here for gentleness describes the heart of a person who will let God fight his battles. It describes someone who is free to let go of his anxieties and what causes him stress because they know that God will take up their cause.

It is not gentleness as in “be nice” but as in “let go of your control freak tendencies and trust God.” Rest in the knowledge that God is faithful and is love.

Choose gentleness and trust.

Release your control freak tendencies to God.

The Lord IS near.
He does know.
His has a plan.
You can trust him.

Life is so much better when you trust God and grasp life with gentle hands, one day at a time.
