What Is Shaping Your Imagination

Henry-David-Thoreau-quote-about-imagination-400x600

“For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:5-6‬ ‭NET‬‬

There is a war for your thoughts and for your imagination.  God gave you the ability to imagine and shape your thoughts.  He gave you the ability to imagine your day, your tomorrow, your future.

Many people believe that you can’t control your thoughts or the direction of them but that is not what the Bible says in the verse above.

The imagination nourished by the Spirit of God is life and peace.

The imagination shaped by the flesh is fear and death.

The thing is, you get to choose.

You have free will and God will never take it from you.
What you think, how you think is up to you.

This is not about creating your future with positive thoughts. This is about consciously choosing to fix your mind on Jesus Christ and allowing Him to shape your outlook.

“Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NET‬‬

You have permission, my friend, to take a mental vacation from fear and set your imagination free to dream some God-sized dreams today.

Where is your head?

What is it filled with?

What does it mean for you to set your imagination free and let God dream for your life?

God’s Way

“The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.”

Proverbs 29:25 MSG

Mankind’s definition of surviving is:

Do whatever it takes.Grab whatever you can.Serve yourself first.

  • Learn from other’s mistakes.

God’s definition of surviving is:

  • Trust Him.
  • Give whatever you can.
  • Serve others first.
  • Learn from other’s success.

My prayer for you today is that you choose God’s way of surviving instead of yours.

His is better (and leads to thriving).

Forgiveness is…

Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is a choice to let God have it, hold it, and be responsible for itwhatever it is.

“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Forgiveness is taking the power away from them and giving it back to God.

You don’t have to trust them to forgive them.

Forgiveness is not about restoring trust in them, it is about trusting God with your heart.

They don’t have to be sorry in order for you to forgive them.

They don’t even have to know that you have them released them to God.

What you have to do is make the choice to forgive them today and remake that choice every day after.

Eventually the feeling of releasing them to God will line up with the decision.

One day you will be able to remember what happened without reliving the pain what happened.

“When we forgive an offense, we set a prisoner free, only to discover that we were that prisoner”.

The Me I Don’t Want to Be.

IMG_1655
“Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.”
Mathew 6:13 MSG
Jesus, keep me from me.
From the “me” that gets wrapped up in itself.
Keep me from over-analyzing every single word of every conversation trying to dissect what they might be thinking and how I should have responded differently.
This one thing alone will sap my energy to the point I am exhausted. This one thing keeps my attention on myself and I completely miss what You are doing all around me.
Keep me from being obsessed with myself.  Obsessed with how I look, how much I eat or don’t eat, what I wear, etc. By depending so much on the outward, I neglect filling up the inward with Your presence, power, grace, and love.
I just need a nudge from the enemy.  He doesn’t need to work that hard to send me down a path of self-distraction that I completely miss the joy of life’s little moments.
May this be the last moment I think about myself. May my focus and energy be to worship and magnify You. May my eyes be open to see what You are doing where I am and wholeheartedly celebrate it. May I uncover every moment of joy you have prepared for me.
May I walk in your purposes and every time I’m tempted to go down my familiar self-obsessed roads, give me a nudge to get me back on track.
Keep me from me and hold me close to YOU today.
In Jesus Name, AMEN.

Well-spoken words bring satisfaction; well-done work has its own reward.
‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭14‬ MSG

Don’t let a situation dictate your reaction.

You choose your words.

You choose how you work.

You can’t always choose what you do but you can always choose how you act doing it.

Before your day even begins, get with God and choose together how you will react to the wide world you live in.

Worry or Peace

You will have many opportunities to worry today.

Some things you worry about all the time.

Some things you can’t anticipate until they are upon you.

Either way, you can collect worry like it’s your job or you can choose peace.

You have peace with God through Jesus Christ and because of that you can receive peace from God in every situation.

That doesn’t mean the day before you is not full of challenges, it means that you have already decided to face them with the peace of God ruling your heart rather than the anxiety of man.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Recognize that out of all the decisions you will make today, the most important one will be what you choose to hold onto God’s peace or your worry?

Rejoice is a Choice

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4 NIV)

Rejoicing is the theme of the book of Philippians, even though the circumstances with which it was written hold no reason for such a sentiment. Paul is under house arrest in Rome waiting to go before Caesar. He is cut off from his friends and chained to a guard 24 hours a day. He is not comfortable and does not know what the future will hold.

And that is the point.

We don’t rejoice because life is good, we rejoice because God is good.

We don’t rejoice only when good things happen – God works through all things.

We don’t wait to rejoice until we have all the answers, we rejoice knowing that Jesus does. And he loves you and will be with you whatever comes.

Set your heart to rejoice in Jesus today. Who he is, what he has done and that your eternal future is secured by his sacrifice. Your present circumstances are provided for by the strength of his grace no matter what they look like. We like to rejoice when we get our way but sometimes the harder way is what we actually need to grow in. Set your mind to delight in a security of his love and the mercy of his grace.

Rejoicing when there is nothing to rejoice about is a divine gift that will transform you.

And if you ask Jesus to open your eyes to see what you have right now to rejoice in, he will.

Take the gift and throw a party.
