Present Power

God has called you to live your life not perform it.

He created you to be present and active in it. Get tired, frustrated, give, take, learn, fail and grow.

Embrace reality.

Be empowered to be present.

No, it is not perfect. It’s broken and challenging and difficult. It’s different than you thought it would be and Jesus is doing a new beautiful thing right in the middle of all it.

Jesus doing a new beautiful thing in the middle of you.

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out!

Isaiah 43:18 MSG

May you be free from the narrative of the past to live fully in the newness of God’s present work in you.

May you be empowered to face the reality of your life as you walk in His unique, personal, powerful expression of grace and purpose today.

In Need of Grace

“Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“One who has been touched by grace will no longer look on those who stray as “those evil people” or “those poor people who need our help.” Nor must we search for signs of “loveworthiness.” Grace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are.”

– Phillip Yancey

There is no such thing as “us” and “them” in the kingdom of God. There is just us. We are all in need of the grace and mercy of Godeveryday.

Love God, Love people.

Glow Sticks

Last Sunday at the Worship Night at my church they passed out glow sticks (which is a brilliant idea especially for my boys).

As I broke the stick to light it up, I began to think about broken things.

So often we we think of broken things as undesirable and bad. However, there are some things that are better when broken: Pride, vanilla beans, and bad habits to name a few.

Take the glow stick: I was holding in my hand an object that must be broken in order to shine. It can not break itself. It can not shine without being broken.

There is a spiritual principle here.

For you to shine bright in the dark world, there are things in you that need to be broken.

Things that need to shaken up so that you can light up.

You can’t do it yourself. No will power on earth will break some things but God’s power will.

When you place yourself into the hands of God, you are held by the One who can and will break up the quiet darkness and dormant power in you.

He will shake you up, wake you up so you can shine.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬ NLT)

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭14-15‬ NLT)

Shine.
