Gentleness

Thursday

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When I am stressed, gentleness is not my go-to mode of operation. Frustrated, fearful, anxious, and taking control is.

The original Greek word used for gentleness in the verse above describes the heart of someone who will let God fight his battles for Him. It describes a person who has let go of trying to control the situation and allowed God to do what He needs to do through Him.

Jesus showed us what this kind of gentleness looks like. He focused on His relationship with His Father and only did what God directed Him to. He did not bend to peer pressure, comparison, or even try to fit in with anyone other than His Father. He didn’t try to control the situations or people. He focused on being faithful to the part He was given to do and allowed God to work out the rest.

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He leads gently so that you can live gently.

Gentle is not weak it is focused trust as well as a deep knowing of who you are and whose you are.

My friend, may you begin to learn to live in the power of leading a gentle life by being yoked and yielded to the gentle Savior today.

Take Possession

“See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”  ‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God keeps His promises.

It may take longer than you expect and look vastly different than you imagine but nonetheless, God keeps His promises.

God said, “See, I have given you this land.” Past Tense. Already Yours. Deed signed over.

This is your land. He gave it to the children of Isreal but He didn’t clear it of giants and opposition. He didn’t flatten the mountains or clear the forests.

Talk about a fixer-upper.

God didn’t remove the obstacles but He empowered His children to overcome them.

Sometimes we want the Lord to lead us to the promised land like we want to be chosen for “Dream Home” TV Show. We want God to come in, get a vision, tell us to take a vacation for a week and then come back and move into a brand new life.

We want Him to do all the work and give us the keys.

Jesus will lead you to your promised land. He will show it to you and give you a glimpse of what it could be.

He will tell you the truth- that it’s already yours, he paid for it on the cross.

But you are going to have to do the work, fight the battles and clear the land.

He will walk with you, renovate with you, fight with you, clear the land with you.

Jesus will empower you to do what you need to do when you need to do it.

Don’t hold back.
God keeps his promises.

Don’t Settle

In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them.

This was after he had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, and at Edrei had defeated Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭1:3- 4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Moses has just told the Israelites that it’s time to cross over to the Promised Land but the nation of former slaves isn’t sure that is a good idea. Maybe they have fought and won a few battles but they were not sure that meant they were ready to possess the promised land. They were beginning to think that being a wanderer in the wilderness wasn’t so bad. They were unsure about going forward. They were thinking about settling for the best they had right then instead of pressing forward for the best God had for them in the future.

It’s not like you haven’t won a couple of battles. You have.

You have faced the lies and begun to live in God’s truth. You have stood your ground and fought for freedom.

But maybe today you are tired.

You don’t want to give up or go back, but making camp where you are may seem like a great idea.

My friend, go ahead and rest.

Get your breath back.

Get your vision back.

Remind yourself of God’s vision and get moving.

Don’t settle for good enough, fight for God’s best in every area of your life.

He Goes Before You

You can face the day before you with strength because you know that God is with you.

You can face the future with courage because you know that God goes before you into it.

“The LORD is indeed going before you – he will be with you; he will not fail you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged!” (‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭31‬:‭8‬ NET)

The scripture above was spoken by Moses as he commissioned Joshua to take the children of Israel into the promised land.

A nation of former slaves facing a future of freedom.

They knew it would not be easy.

They knew they were going to have to fight for it.

They were leaving their past behind and venturing together into a new normal.

You don’t have to know all the details of what is to come. You just need to know God has called you to it and He will give you what you need, when you need it, to begin living it.

Rest well, stop worrying and meet the battle head on to take possession of God’s promised land for you.

One Small Stone

Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. (1 Samuel 17:49 NIV)

David did not have faith in the small stone he got from his pouch.

He had faith that God could use a small thing to conquer the giant before him.

He believed that God could use a small stone placed in the hand of a young boy to change the momentum of a critical battle.

He believed in God.
He fought with faith.

What small thing has God already placed in your hand?

Place your faith in God then fight.

He will use the small thing he has placed in your hand to do the big thing you have been praying for.

Begin with His Rest in Mind

God doesn’t say, “it will be easy”
nor does He say ” there will be no battles”.

He says:

“My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14 NIV)

It doesn’t matter what is happening around you when you have God’s presence within you.

Rest in his love, power, grace, peace, knowledge, goodness and faithfulness.
