Sometimes someone we love is carrying something we cannot fix.
We wish we had the right answer, the needed resource, or the ability to make the hard thing go away.
We feel helpless.
Near the end of Romans 15, Paul asks the believers in Rome to join him in his struggle by praying for him. He writes in Romans 15:30, “I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” (NIV)
Paul knew he needed others to pray.
He names real concerns: his safety, the reception of his ministry, and his hope of visiting them.
Their distance did not keep them from participating in his ministry.
Through prayer, they could bring his needs before God and stand with him in the work.
Prayer is one way love shows up when we cannot be there ourselves.
Who comes to mind today?
Pause and pray for that person by name.
Be specific.
Ask God to strengthen them, guide them, and provide what they need.
Let them know: “I prayed for you today.”
Those few words can remind a weary person that they are being carried in love.
Father, bring someone to mind who needs prayer today. Help me pause long enough to bring their needs to You. Strengthen them, surround them with care, and show me any practical way I can help. In Jesus Powerful Name, Amen.
