Some thoughts feel true simply because we have repeated them for years.
I’ll never change.
I’m on my own.
I have to prove myself.
Sometimes we have lived with these thoughts so long that we hardly notice them anymore. They quietly shape what we expect from ourselves, from others, and even from God.
Paul wrote in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV)
What patterns of thinking did you learn in the world you grew up in?
Did you learn that you had to handle everything yourself?
That love had to be earned?
That your mistakes would always define you?
Through Christ, we are welcomed into a relationship with a loving, gracious Father.
As we receive His love and forgiveness, we begin to think differently.
It’s all up to me becomes I need God, and He is near.
I have to prove myself becomes I am God’s child, and I am loved.
Our past may explain how a thought took root, but in Christ,
we can learn to live from the truth of who we are now.
Father, thank You for loving me as I am and patiently helping me grow. Show me the thoughts I have accepted as truth that do not reflect Your heart. Renew my mind as I learn to trust what You say about me. When familiar fears return, remind me that I am Your child, You are near, and I can turn to You again. Help me live today knowing I am loved. In the Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen.
