Paul gives us quite a spiritual wardrobe in Colossians 3 that includes compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Then in verse 14, he says, “Over everything else, put on love.” (NIV)
Because you can be right without being loving.
You can know Scripture without being loving.
You can have strong convictions without being loving.
You can even do good things without doing them from love.
Jesus said love would be the distinguishing mark of His followers.
How they treat each other.
How they talk about each other.
How they serve each other.
Not because they are always lovable but because we are loved by God.
So before you walk into your next meeting,
answer the text,
correct the person,
make the post
or have the difficult conversation,
ask: “How can I pour God’s love over this?”
Being right may prove your point, being loving reveals the love of Jesus in you.
Lord Jesus, let love cover everything I do today. Help the way I speak, respond and treat people reflect Your heart. In Your Powerful Name, Amen.
