Before Paul tells us what to put on, he reminds us who we are in Colossians 3:12, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (NIV)
You are chosen, holy and dearly loved.
Don’t miss the order.
You don’t become loved because you are compassionate enough.
You don’t become chosen because you are kind enough.
You don’t become holy because you behave well enough.
You are chosen and loved by God and said yes to Him.
Now you get to dress like it.
Now you get to live in it.
This is what living loved looks like:
Compassion for the hurting.
Kindness for those who aren’t.
Humility at work and home.
Gentleness to those who don’t deserve it.
Patience with the immature and growing.
We aren’t loving people to earn an identity from God.
We love people because He has already given us one.
You are chosen and loved today.
Wrap yourself in that truth and live out of it.
Father, thank You that I am chosen, holy and dearly loved. Help me put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience today. In Jesus Powerful Name, Amen.
