Someone once told Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
It sounds beautiful, faith-filled, committed.
But Jesus didn’t affirm it with excitement, He answered with honesty.
He said to him in Luke 9:58, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” (NIV)
Jesus is gently saying that before you say yes,
understand the cost.
Following Him isn’t comfortable.
It will not fit neatly into your plans.
It will lead you into places that stretch your faith.
Jesus is not promising an easy or predictable life.
Foxes have dens to run back to.
Birds have nests to nest in.
But Jesus Himself lived without earthly security.
This man said, “I’ll follow you wherever.”
Jesus knew that words are easy to say before the cost is felt.
And He is inviting this man to move from emotion to true devotion.
The path will be inconvenient.
It will disrupt your plans.
It will require sacrifice.
We all long for a place to belong.
A place that feels steady, secure.
Like home.
Home isn’t found in comfort
or predictability
or in having everything figured out.
Jesus had no permanent earthly place
because His mission from God wasn’t rooted in this world.
Neither is yours.
Jesus is inviting you to loosen your grip on security and stability,
and to find your “home” in Him.
Rest in Him.
Recharge in Him.
And get ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
