The storm came suddenly.
The waves were crashing in,
the boat was filling with water,
and the disciples were overwhelmed with fear.
And Jesus was asleep.
Luke 8:24, says that, “The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we’re going to drown!’” (NIV)
Can you imagine that moment?
Panic all around them and peace right beside them.
They woke Him up, desperate and afraid.
And with just a word, Jesus calmed the wind and the waves.
Luke 8:24-25 tells us what happened, “He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. ‘Where is your faith?’ he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, ‘Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.’” (NIV)
Jesus asked them, “Where is your faith?” not to shame them but to invite them.
Because the real question wasn’t about the storm.
It was about where they were placing their trust in the middle of one.
Friend, we all encounter storms – moments that feel out of control, overwhelming, and uncertain.
And sometimes it feels like Jesus is silent in them.
But this story reminds us:
He is still in it with you.
He is not overwhelmed by what overwhelms you.
He is not anxious about what makes you anxious.
And He is fully able to speak peace into your situation.
So today, instead of focusing on the storm,
fix your eyes on the One who calms it.
Because peace isn’t found in the absence of storms,
it’s found in the presence of Jesus.
