We all start a new year with the best of intentions and a quiet resolve to do things right this time.
We want to be more patient.
More present.
More spiritually grounded.
We picture ourselves calm, kind, and steady—shining brightly as we move confidently into the year ahead.
And then… life doesn’t cooperate.
Nothing works the way it should.
You feel flustered, distracted, and somehow every small thing seems to pile on top of the last.
They aren’t easy days—but they are only a day.
Scripture reminds us to hold both kinds of days with humility and perspective:
Ecclesiastes 7:14 reminds us, “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.” (NIV)
Today is a new day.
It may be good.
It may not be.
Either way, the day will pass—and a new one will come.
God never promised us uninterrupted good days, but He did promise His faithful presence in every day.
His mercy does not depend on how yesterday went or how today unfolds.
Lamentations 3:22–24 reminds us of this steady truth: “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’” (NIV)
The goodness of a day does not determine the goodness of God.
Whatever happened yesterday—learn from it and let it go.
Whatever happens today—draw your portion from God and do your best.
Hold on to hope for tomorrow.
And give thanks for new mercies, fresh grace, and the quiet promise that every morning begins again with Him.
