Did you know that when the word “priority” was introduced and used in the English language, it was not plural?
It was only singular.
It meant, “What is the one most important thing?”
Modern life has made the singular “priority” and pluralized it into “priorities.”
Now we have five top priorities rather than one.
Jesus defined the priority of human life as this: a living rich relationship with God.
He tells us in Matthew 6:30-33 to, “Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” (MSG)
Jesus said that this is what you are made for and how you are made to live.
You are created to have one priority: your relationship with God.
That’s it.
Everything else in life flows out of that.
Modern life keeps us waist-deep in busyness which leads to hurriedness which leads to a distracted, harried pace of life that chokes out time with God.
Flip it on its head, get off that hamster wheel, and make your relationship with God your first and only the priority of the day.
When you do, you will find that the rest will fall into place.
