Sometimes all we can see is what has been cut down.
A relationship has changed.
A dream has ended.
Someone we love has walked away from God.
What once appeared full of promise now looks like a lifeless stump.
But God sees what we cannot see.
He sees the root.
Paul writes in Romans 11:16, “If the root is holy, so are the branches.” (NIV)
Paul is talking about Isreal and how God has remained faithful to fulfill His promises, even when His people are unfaithful.
Some branches had been broken off because of unbelief.
Some turned away and followed other gods .
But God’s covenant purposes did not disappear.
The root remained, a remnant believed and restoration was still possible.
What looks like a finished story to you may not be the end of the story for God.
His purposes have not disappeared. You may not be able to see what He is doing beneath the surface, but you can trust His character.
God is faithful, His grace is still working, and no situation is beyond His ability to redeem.
Don’t declare the story over while God is still tending the root.
Father, help me trust You with the places that look hopeless. When I cannot see what You are doing, remind me that You are still faithful and still at work. In Jesus Powerful Name, Amen.
