Trust and fear often compete for the same space in our hearts.
Fear focuses on what might happen.
Trust focuses on who God is.
Many believers think they must get rid of fear
before they can trust God.
Scripture teaches the opposite.
We trust God in the middle of our fear,
and trust gradually weakens fear’s grip.
Isaiah 12:2 writes, “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” (NIV)
Isaiah doesn’t say there are no reasons to be afraid.
He says God is his salvation, strength, and defense.
Because of who God is, he chooses trust over fear.
The more we get to know God’s character,
the easier it becomes to place our confidence in Him.
We remember that the God who carried us before will carry us again.
We remind our hearts that He is our defender.
When we are weak, we look to His strength to fill us.
Trust is not believing that life will always go the way we want.
Trust is believing that God will always be who He says He is.
Trusting in God doesn’t remove every difficulty,
it removes the temptation to be full by fear.
Fear is an emotion.
Trust is a decision.
And that changes everything.
