Names matter.
A name is more than a label.
It represents a person’s character, reputation, and identity.
When we hear the name of someone we love,
memories come to mind.
Emotions rise up.
The same is true when it comes to the name of God.
In Psalms 139:20 David is grieved because people are speaking against God and misusing His name when he writes, “They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.” (NIV)
He isn’t upset because his feelings have been hurt.
He is troubled because the God he loves is being misrepresented and dishonored.
Thousands of years later, not much has changed.
God’s name is often used carelessly, mocked, misunderstood,
or attached to things that do not reflect His heart.
Sometimes people reject God not because they truly know Him,
but because they have seen a distorted picture of Him.
The truth is that every person has been created in the image of God,
but not everyone is living in that identity.
Sin has a way of distorting what God intended to reflect His goodness and glory.
As followers of Jesus, we have the privilege of helping people see who God really is.
We honor His name not only with our words, but with our lives.
Every act of kindness, every moment of forgiveness,
every choice to serve, every word of encouragement
becomes a reflection of His character.
When we live loved, we become living reminders of God’s goodness, grace, and faithfulness.
Our lives tell a story about who He is.
May we be people who represent His name well.
May our words speak life, our actions reflect His love,
and our lives point people toward Jesus rather than away from Him.
You may be the closest picture of Jesus someone sees today.
Honor His name by reflecting His heart.
