Most of us have hoped for something that didn’t happen: a relationship that didn’t last, a leader who let us down, a prayer that seemed unanswered or a future that didn’t unfold the way we imagined.
And if we’re honest, after enough disappointment, we start guarding our hearts.
We lower our expectations.
We trust a little less.
We brace ourselves for the letdown.
Sometimes we even wonder,”what if trusting God ends the same way?”
But Romans 5:5 gives us a different kind of hope, “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (NIV)
Friend, you will not be embarrassed for trusting God.
There is a difference between wishful hope and anchored hope.
Wishful hope says, I really want this to work out.
Anchored hope says, No matter how this works out, I know I am loved.
Wishful hope depends on outcomes.
Anchored hope depends on identity.
Paul tells us why this hope is different: Because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
Not sprinkled.
Not rationed.
Not held back.
But poured out.
This isn’t a fragile promise hanging on circumstances.
This is an internal witness.
The Holy Spirit Himself assures your heart:
You are loved.
You are secure.
You belong to Him.
That means even when life feels uncertain, love is not.
Even when outcomes shift, your identity doesn’t.
God’s love is not a fragile promise — it’s a poured-out reality for you today.
