In David’s world, people put their security in visible things — armies, idols, alliances, wealth, power.
Things you could touch.
Things you could measure.
Things that looked dependable.
David stubbornly refuses to anchor himself there.
Instead, he chooses refuge in a God he cannot see but knows he can trust.
He writes these words in Psalms 25:19–20, “See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me! Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.” (NIV)
David is not pretending life is easy here. He names the threat. He names the fear. He admits he feels surrounded.
And then he does something deeply intentional — he runs in the right direction.
Not toward what he can control.
Not toward what looks strong.
Not toward what everyone else is trusting.
He runs toward God.
That same choice sits in front of us every day.
It’s easy to let our focus drift toward what feels urgent and visible — circumstances, opinions, fear, uncertainty, outcomes we want to manage.
But refuge is not found in control.
Refuge is found in relationship.
Taking refuge in God is not denial of reality.
It’s a decision about where your safety ultimately lives.
Today, I want to encourage you to gently pull your trust away from what you can see and fasten it again to your unseen Father.
He is not distant.
He is not passive.
He is the Creator of you and everything around you — and He is actively guarding what you place in His care.
Whatever you are facing right now, keep turning your eyes toward Him.
Ask for His protection.
Seek His guidance.
Stay faithful to who He has called you to be, even when the outcome feels uncertain.
Then wait with confidence.
Not because the situation is small —but because your Rescuer is not.
