The Next Right Thing

There are places in life you never choose to be.
Dark places.
Desperate places.
The kind of places where you don’t need help in just one area, you need help in every area.

That’s where David was when he wrote Psalm 25. The shepherd boy who became king poured out his heart before God, fully aware of his brokenness, fully honest about his need. In verse 9, David wrote about God that, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.” (NIV)

The word humble here isn’t a virtue you put on,
it’s the condition you are in.
It describes someone who is low, afflicted, worn thin by circumstances.

It’s not how you want to be—it’s where you find yourself.
And it’s exactly where God meets you.

He is the God who bends low to lift you up.
He is the God who draws near when you can’t lift your head.
He is the King who sat with the grieving, stood with the hurting, and looked into desperate eyes to declare:
God’s kingdom is near.
God comes close.
God is here.

And not only is He near—He is a guide.

The Hebrew phrase translated “what is right” refers to a path—a direction, a step, a mode of action.

God doesn’t just comfort you in the darkness—He leads you out of it.

One step at a time.
One nudge of clarity.
One act of courage.
He connects you to the right person.
He opens the right door.
He whispers the next move when you’re frozen by fear.
He shows you the next right thing.
So friend, take a breath.

You don’t need to see the whole path.
You just need to listen for the next step.
What is the next right thing God is asking you to do today?
