When we are assaulted by fear of an unknown future and worry about an uncertain outcome, it’s only natural to fall back into our usual ways of coping.
For some of us, that looks like retreating into denial.
For others, it means launching into endless, mind-numbing what ifs.
But today, I want to invite you to consider a third option:
Ask God to show you His way of walking through what you’re facing.
David prays this simple, honest prayer in Psalms 25:4: “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” (NIV)
What I love about this is that David doesn’t ask God to just fix the problem.
He asks God to form him in the middle of it.
He’s not just looking for relief—he’s asking for direction.
And we see this same posture in Jesus.
As the cross loomed before Him, Jesus prayed in Luke 22:42: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (NIV)
In essence, both Jesus and David are praying the same prayer:
Not my way… but Yours.
David is putting God in the position of Mentor, Teacher, and Rabbi—asking Him to lead him down paths of righteousness instead of his own well-worn paths of defensiveness, control, or revenge.
My friend, God will take every opportunity you give Him to show you His way forward.
He will gently take you by the hand and lead you off the road of fear-based, knee-jerk reactions—and guide you onto His way: the way of mercy, wisdom, humility, and grace.
The same mercy He shows to you is the mercy He will teach you to extend to others.
I know you want to experience God’s good plans for your life.
I do too.
So don’t let someone else’s agenda—or your own fear—hijack that journey.
Turn your focus back to God.
Ask Him to show you His ways.
And trust Him to teach you how to walk forward in faith.
