The Beauty of the Ordinary Walk

Walking is basic. It’s not glamorous or flashy. It doesn’t get applause. In fact, it’s something we all had to learn by falling—over and over again. I remember watching my son take his first steps. He stood up, wobbled a bit, took one step—and fell. But that didn’t stop him.
For the next three days, he tried again and again until he could take more steps than falls.
After that, he never crawled again.

That’s how we all learned. Falling. Getting up. Trying again.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says,
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (NKJV)

Not run. Not leap. Not sprint.
 Walk.
One small step at a time.

Walking by faith isn’t just about the big, bold moves of life—it’s about the little, ordinary ones. The unseen ones. The ones that don’t feel spiritual or significant.

It’s choosing to be kind when you’re tired.
It’s holding on to hope when the outcome is still unknown.
It’s showing up, even when nothing feels exciting.

Jesus said in Matthew 10:40, “This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance.” (MSG)

That’s the kind of walk He’s talking about.

When the holidays don’t go as planned…
When the expectations are high but reality falls short…
When Christmas feels more like chaos than celebration—
Walking by faith lets you breathe deep, let go, and find joy in the quiet, unexpected moments.

It’s the everyday, seemingly dull steps that shape a soul of faith.

So today, my friend, walk slowly, steadily, and consistently—by faith in who Jesus is.
Don’t rush. Don’t worry. Just walk.

And as you do, enjoy the journey.

  1. “The Beauty of the Ordinary Walk” is a simple and profound message I will return to again and again. I love this version of Matthew 10:40. Though my intentions are sincere, I often set unrealistic expectations for myself. Even literally taking a walk becomes a goal to achieve instead of a joy. So, thank you for the loving nudge to simply walk in Faith.
