In John 17:20-21, we see that before Jesus faced the cross, He faced His Father in the garden of Gethsemane and prayed. He prayed, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.” (NIV)
Jesus prayed for His disciples present and future.
What did He pray?
He prayed that we would not be isolated from the world, but that we would infiltrate it with His love.
He prayed that we would be protected from the evil one as we audaciously pursue living out the great commission.
He prayed that we would realize that we don’t belong to the world but to God.
He prayed that we would walk in the truth that they would know that we are not meant to condemn the world but transform it with His love.
He prayed that the truth and power of His Word infiltrate every aspect of our lives resulting in their wholeness and the wholeness of those around us.
Jesus prayed that His Father would empower us to bring light to the darkness, hope to the hurting, restoration to the broken and that we would be fully united in this purpose.
When you are discouraged about what is happening around you, remember that Jesus prayed for you and is interceding for you today.
