R & R

Do you need some serious R & R? I am not talking about rest and recreation but something much more powerful: repentance and rest.

When Jesus began His public ministry, Matthew records that Jesus always began with the proclamation, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 4:17 (NIV)

Because Jesus paid for your sin on the cross, you have access to rest in God’s abundant forgiveness and unrelenting love.

Because of Jesus you can live in the deep down peace that knows that God will fulfill His Word in you and through you.

Because of what Jesus did for you, you can live in a supernatural confidence that is not born from flesh but from the work of the Holy Spirit.

Because of who Jesus is and His daily presence in your life, you can let His divine gentleness envelope your soul.

Repentance means to run into God’s open arms and receive His love.

To rest means to cease striving for God’s love and fully receive it through Jesus.

Repentance means to be honest with where you have messed up and ask God for forgiveness.

Repentance means to mourn the pain your sin has caused you as well as others.

Repentance means turning away from old ways and asking God to help you change.

You are made to rest in God’s grace.

You need to rest in God’s peace.

You can trust God in every area of your life.

R & R is a wonderful picture of what salvation looks like in our lives.

To repent is true freedom and to rest in God’s love through Jesus’ sacrifice is salvation at every level.

This does not mean you will not experience conflict, it means you can trust God in the middle of conflict.

This kind of rest doesn’t mean removing all strife from your life.

It means facing it straight on with Jesus by your side.

My friend, the most powerful thing you can do today is get some serious R &R: Repentance and Rest.
