Lean On Me

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5- 6 NIV

Are you facing a situation that you just don’t understand?

Your understanding is made of what you know, what you have learned, what you have been taught. You have tucked it into your back pocket as experience. In the other pocket, you have stuffed the disappointments, the failures, and the fears of how other people’s choices will impact your life. It is natural to lean on what you know and on your own understanding.

Today, I want to challenge you to let go of what you understand and ask God to show you what He understands. What He sees. He knows what is really going on and nothing is hidden from Him. Instead of spending your energy worrying about what you can’t control or stressing about what you can’t do, look to God. Ask for His perspective and wisdom. Ask Him to show you His understanding of the situation. Lean hard into His love and His faithfulness. Ask Him to help you handle the situation before you with His grace-filled power.

I love how the Message Version says it:  “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”  Proverbs 3:5 MSG

  1. I love the way you write about what’s in our back pockets-it’s such a relatable description. Thank you for these beautiful encouraging messages.
